Rob- I'm sure everyone appreciated your tutorial on oil pumps. Great stuff. Assuming the $500 price is accurate, you have to wonder what Mercury is thinking with all these insane price increases?? I mean how can they possibly justify doubling the price of a shop manual?

What up Lou. Merc went up on alot of stuff Jan

hpscarab22 ck with us before you by anything from Merc .Somebody else usally makes it for them.

The merc oil pump is a meling 77 series .I did not see anything special done to it when I took it apart.

Remember the c is for the cavitation groves ,It will have lower oil pressure at 1000 rpm or lower. I dont think it would cause a problem since you don't need a lot of pressure a idle. But unless you have a solid roller it doesn't like Idling . not enough oil flowing for them.Tuff on the tappets

Even on my KE oil pan the Moroso oil pump pick up was the same height.

Like most Prof. engine builders say on a big block Chevy they don't have a oiling prob,But it cant hurt :drink:

I am still running some of the oil pumps that have the cavitation groves in them in some of my cars with no bearring problems

Hope this helps :drink:

Yeah, and if you are running a crossover and want to run a thermostat, the price of the 'Merc Racing' pressure relief valve has gone from $102 to over $240!!!
This is a piece of plastic with stuff in it that would cost the average Chinese worker $2 to build!!!
All these price increases are rediculous.
It makes you wonder 'why'.
