oil temp wires on 1990 fountain
 

After I swapped motors I don't get an oil temp reading. I have the Gaff gauges with the alarms. Do 2 wires (brwn/blue and brwn/white) go on the sending unit on the oil filter housing? If not where does the brwn/blue wire go and what else could cause this? I thought I transfered everything over to the new motors. I have run a grnd wire from the sending unit base to the block to check that too.

Is it possible the brwn/blue goes on the sender and not the brwn/white? I connected both at once and get a steady alarm while running.When I just run the brwn/white I get no reading. I haven't tried with just the brwn/blu

if memory serves me right (and lately its been failing so take it for what its worth!) The brown/blue is for the oil psi and usually goes over to the warning buzzer assembly. So that leaves the brown/white for oil temp......
try hooking the brown/blue straight to ground and see if it sets off the buzzer....the buzzer assembly is looking for a ground meaning it has no oil psi...so that would eliminate that wire. :)

Well, I guess I have another problem,,I think it's wired right just not even getting warm after a hard run. I need an oil thermostat. I grabbed the filter after a few min at 4000+ and it was cool. Just don't know if it restricts water flow to the oil cooler or oil flow to the oil cooler. Where's the best place to get some? How much and which? Thanks

Make sure your oil lines are blumbed correctly. The filter should be warm after a hard run.

My motor isn't warm either,the water temp at the lake is 57 and the block feels room temp too. I have a 140 thermostat(with 4 holes in it) I need to change it back to a 180 I guess. My water pressure needs to be regulated too I guess because it reads over 30 at speed. I'm way to cold. I double checked all the plumbing and have a few hrs on it now but I'll recheck.

:D ok ive got the anser, your problem is one of those freekey things :eek: that happen to most of use it never failes when you try to do some thing on your owen :mad: :mad: your prolbem is bass, ackwords from from my :mad: :mad: a 2mile run and 375 oil temp 5 lbs water, 135 water temp. i have 2 oil colers remotr oil with no thermstat ,,,, and you think you have a glicth/ naaaa :eek:

I ran fairly hot 454s in an old 30' Scarab and didn't have any oil coolers or oil temp gauge,,never had a problem,,didn't run synth oil. I've heard of others doing the same. I think you MUST not be getting any water to the cooler or any oil. Have you pulled a line on both to see if you have flow?Are you using a high flow oil filter? I am pretty sure I fried my last motors using a reg Fram PH5 or whatever. Maybe you have the same problem. It only flowed around half the stock merc stuff and 1/3 to 1/4 as much as WalMart and Perolator. Check threads here.
