Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
Cash Bar,
That was only one class that I am sure is only going to grow. All other classes had a good number of participants in them. Better to have many boats in 5 classes then 10 classes agreed??? OSS formula seems to working better then the rest by number of boats in a class. Therefore I am with BJM and Sharkey on the approval ratings after this weekends event. |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
Don't get me wrong, I do like OSS. I just stated that lets not get ahead of ourselves on the "great # of boats" stat.
If I was racing this season I would definitely be looking to run at least a few OSS races. I still may get a shot this season(boat issues) and I sure like a few of their sites. |

What really isn't a great number is 9 classes with 3 boats or less in them..... But that's racin'!!! :drink: |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
I plan to be in Memphis(pickwick) to support them too. I hope for growth in that class, that is MY class.
Hopefully I can add to the count. |

Hopefully I can add to the count. Only change I would like to see is to allow other Manufactured Powerplants be used... Since Mercury is coughing up the sponsorship, I don't see that happening anytime real soon.... |

Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
While I agree with 5 class's and a average of 6.2 boats a class is OK..lets remeber 2 or 3 years ago.....F1 6 to 8 boats...F2 4 to 6 boats...SV 7 to 8 boat SC 6 TO 8 boats...and with both racing Organizations SBI last year averaged 18 to 23 boats....APBA 18 to 25 boats...and now that they joined 40+boats...with you probably seeing 60+ at some races....and OSS have 30 boats last year in Biloxi in 5 class's and this year 31....even with there 9 new teams the nember of boats that are out racing are pretty much the same....just all moving into different class's or different Organizations.....
Now combined both Organizations... SC..8 SCL..7 SV...22-23 SVL....10 SS...8 Now combine the prize monies being paid in both Organizations in the above class's..what...$14,000 or 15,000 for 1st Place and there is a good reason to move up into these class's.... thats 55 boats in 5 class's and average if 11 boat per class then put in your P class boats which they all do selected races and they all don't have the budget to do 8+ races.... When this happens the sport will move ahead in a big way.... I raced against 20+F1's and only 5 or 6 F1's the large number of boats in that class is what brought me into F1 not 5 to 6 of them...but the numbers show OSS will have the same amount of boats as last year and SBI/APBA will have there cambined numbers at there's and with both Organizations schedules on the same dates on 5 or so races you won't see them racing both Organizations...which leads to the same numbers.... Something for people to think about next year |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
it was great to see some new faces in biloxi. I had a GREAT time! I met a lot of new people and i'm looking forward to pickwick. I hear it's going to be a huge turnout of fans.
congrats to all the racers for a safe and great race. All the boats were flying out there. |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
Here is something to think about this year:
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=101429 While the intentions to unite the world of offshore sounds simple it isnt, OSS started last year with 4 classes, and this year 5. it will continue to grow, as strong armed tactics and threats, will continue to show people they have other options of where to spend thier money. |

Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
Pete...maybe thats OSS's vision that SBI/APBA will drive the racers to OSS because they will be treated wrong...I have even heard it from OSS racers...how SBI/APBA racers are going to get screwed by SBI/APBA...pretty sad words coming from racers who just a few years ago tought they were great and we all just needed to join together......
Either way...it was good to see the Biloxi race was a success...and it was a safe race... |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
DPT...You also should not leave the racing Organization you choise to race because the other Organizations says your going to get screwed.....I like to find things out for my self..and so far I did in the last 6 months....beleive me it gose both ways....we have to make the best judgement and go with it....I just hope this is not the attidue of Organizations...becuase if it is we will never race together

as are the many divisional races. OSS is trying to build a Professional national curcuit, one that will attract a National Sponsor. They want Racers that are commited to racing the entire season, not when they feel like it. Telling racers if they race anywhere else they will get no television coverage sounds like a strong armed threat to me. Espeacially if you have a sponsor who is counting on their logo to be on the screen. time will tell the tale here, and while you sit and ponder the future of offshrore racing, tell us all what YOU DHLAW are going to do to save it, and rid the world of the villians of OSS, who dare to bring tall tales of deception, strongarm tactics, to overpower the mighty SBI/APBA/UIM |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
NO WHERE did I state to leave one organization for the other. What I implied was simple if it was read correctly. Do not knock something until you try it!!!!!! VERY VERY VERY SIMPLE!!! Agreed???? I may favor OSS and I am not going to deny it. My favoritism there is not with the organization but with the people who are all involved. Class Acts and very professional. I have been a spectator/ fan / racer/ pit lizard for a very long time. I have watched organizations, race sites, racers, and people in charge come and go as this has always been a vicious cycle. Many who knock, ridicule, or what ever may be are not going on there own personal situations they have shared with one organization or the other. So as Bill Marr states on HBO every week at the end of his shows, NEW RULES!!!!!!!!!!
1) DON'T KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU TRIED IT!!!!!!! 2) QUITE SIMPLE, SHUT UP AND RACE!!!!!! DPT ANGRY IRISHMAN syndrome getting the best of him!!!! |

It always has been and always will be because of the very nature of the beast. It does not lend itself to spectator involvement therefore it does not lend to marketing firms. Further, what is the difference between me racing 3 or 4 races in a 9 race schedule and you racing 4 races in a 4 race schedule?? That makes you a professional?? Maybe I should stick to "divisional" racing and leave the professional racing to you "pros" ?? Yeahh, OK......... Lets get a grip. Nobody is making a living racing boats and I would venture a guess that none of us past or present would leave our current jobs to race. Is that because OSS just hasnt had enough time to turn the corner and bring legitimacy to offshore racing?? Your ego may say yes but history is not on your side. |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
Hey Pete B. Are you the crew chief for the Imco team this year?

Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results

YES racers were told that SBI/APBA/UIM boats were not allowed to compete in the AMF kilos the past week. That being said, Congrats to all the Racers in Biloxi and stop hijacking there thread. [QUOTE=dhlaw] It does not lend itself to spectator involvement therefore it does not lend to marketing firms. [QUOTE]
How much more spectator friendly could it be? Walk around the pits, touch the boats, talk to the racers and watch the race for free from the beach? I'll have to disagree, this sport is very fan friendly. |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
I've got some good video of the races and will try to upload something cool to show you how fast these OSS cats and OSS V's were running.
Congrats to everyone who raced, it was a safe and fun race. |
Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
It is amazing how much the lead teams picked it up over the winter. Last year you couldn't touch pro marine and now they are a middle of the pack boat. Yes J.T. is not in the boat but it seems like there was at least a 5 MPH gain in the front boats. Thats hard to find in 5 months with such tight rules! Congrats guys.

Re: OSS Biloxi 2005 Results
It's crazy how fast some of these super cats are running. During testing on Saturday they all looked like they were running 150 mph. CRC looked real good during testing but I didn't think they would whoop up so bad on sunday. Mike said that they just got the boat and said they hadn't done a ton of testing.
Everyone looked ridiculously fast out there. It's going to be one hell of a season and especially with this new point system nobody is out of the hunt. |
