How To Become A National and/or Divisional Champion

SBI/APBA President, John Carbonell, tells me that there seems to be some confusion among race teams regarding SBI/APBA Divisional & National Championship points and how teams will be awarded the designation of 2005 National and Divisional Champions.

The total number of points a team accumulates throughout the race season will determine SBI/APBA National & Divisional Championships. There are some tiebreaker rules that are spelled out in the rulebook, but the basic premise is the more races race you run, the better your chances to become a National and/or Divisional Champion.

The number of points a team accumulates at National Series races will determine National Championships.

The number of points a team accumulates at both National & Divisional races held within a particular geographic region determines Divisional Championships.

Jim Poplin gave a presentation at the Ft. Lauderdale Driver’s Meeting explaining how 2005 APBA Offshore Hall of Champions inductees will be selected. Jim explained that there will be three 2005 APBA Offshore Hall of Champions inductees:

One from Cat Boat Classes
One from Vee Bottom Classes
One from Manufacturer Performance Classes

Again, points earned by racing in both National & Divisional races will be used to determine who will be the 2005 APBA Offshore Hall of Champions inductees. You must also be a National or World Champion to be inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions.

National Champions WILL NOT be determined by who is the winner of the National Championship race in Deerfield. Points earned at the Deerfield race will count toward the National Championship and Southeast Divisional Championship. You must run the Deerfield race to be named National Champion.

All rules regarding award of National, Divisional, and Hall of Champions awards can be found on the SBI/APBA web site. www.superboat.com

The short version of this post:

If you want to be a National, Southeast Divisional Champion, or be inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions……race in Panama City!
