Re: Any news from Panama city??
Just got home...what a great venue! The weather was beautiful...the water was probably a little too flat...but the racing was awesome!
We had time trials Saturday and Sunday to get the spectators warmed up...then on to the racing. Since we only had eight boats, everyone ran at once. There were three of us P5 boats (the largest class) and we had a great time running deck-to-deck. Since the F1 and P4 guys were running "uncontested", they hung with us in P5 for a little while to put on a good show. Lots of media coverage...I saw a local paper with the racing on the front page of the sports section with at least two full pages of race coverage. Local news was broadcasting team interviews on Friday and race footage on Saturday six o'clock and 10 o'clock news broadcasts. Although there were only 8-9 teams, everyone got local media coverage in some way, shape or form. Then there were the live radio broadcasts during the races on both days. People knew there was a race in town and were excited to see racing back in the bay area. I also had two different folks ask me how they could get started in offshore racing...so maybe we gained some future racers in the Panama City area. Many thanks to Ken Doyle for putting on a great event and getting the spectators to the race. Thanks to SBI/APBA (Pops and crew) for allowing us "little guys" to get a chance in the limelight. We will be back to Panama City...someone just tell me when! Sean |
Re: Any news from Panama city??
I'm sure it was a great venue and the spectators probably loved it. Congrats to Ken for putting this race together. Hopefully next year will have a better turnout.
