i think the 850sci route would of been cool, but maybe next year.... :D

The motors are to hard to keep around the same HP, the pullys can be just a little off, or one blower can be more efficeint than another. I think durring testing they saw swings over 10% diff.

Like the rule where you get more points for running a motor more than one race.

so the min SC weight is lowered 500# to 9000#?

and will the SC engines be sealed in the boat? if not then they can be removed for testing. then be installed for the race.

OSS Cat Owners Ballot Results


In a recent ballot, the OSS Cat Owners cast their votes on several issues concerning their class. Here are the official results :






ITEM 1



“OSS Cat weight minimum of 9000 pounds with 500 pounds of moveable ballast”

- PASSED



ITEM 2



“Water ballast tank fixed with pumping in and out of boat only”

- PASSED





ITEM 3



“1.61 mandatory gear ratio with current OSS Cat engine”

- PASSED





ITEM 4



“1.25 mandatory gear ratio with 850 Mercury SC”

- FAILED





ITEM 5



“Single source blower motor 850 HP”

- FAILED




ITEM 6



“2006 Season run either existing OSS Cat motor or 850 supercharged motor; Parity adjusted by PCM system; PCM system must be sealed and inspected by OSS tech inspectors before and after each race”

- FAILED



ITEM 7



“2007 all motors will be 850 super charged motors. All motors will be sealed and inspected by OSS tech inspectors before and after each race”

ITEM 8



“Nichols Offshore Racing shall be the only grandfathered rudder boat. No additional new or used rudder boats allowed”

“Leave the existing 2005 motor rules in effect including 7600 rpm, with additional points awarded for running the engines multiple races similar to UIM rules.



For example, 5 points for one race, 5 points for second race, 5 points for third race and 7 points for fourth race. After fourth race maximum points have been achieved, and the system reverts back to the first race.”

“Existing 2005 OSS Cat motors must be sealed.



The following items shall be sealed: Oil pan, heads, intakes and valve covers. (The only time the valve cover seal may be broken without penalty will be at a race site where valve or valve lash adjustment is performed in the presence of an OSS tech inspector)”

Why are they so against supercats with rudders? It seems that they would welcome anybody with a new boat rudder or not. The supercat number seems to be dropping. I'm sure Randy or Peter would love to built SC with rudders.

peter is building SC's to his capacity right now. i like rules and the direction they are going.

would really like to know about the weight...

i would guess the weight change was due to everybody adding so much weight to make the 9500, to make them basically meet a 8500 weight and then add 500 of ballast is how i read it instead of guys running 1k on the transom of some of those boats....

i am guessing the new skaters are way under the weight as are all the MTI's so basically they won't be adding as much ballast as they used to....
