BlowTorch
Welcome aboard Ken!
I just finished watching Extreme Powerboats on National Geographic Channel. They show another record attempt is going to be made to break your Fastest Man On Water Record. What are your thoughts on their design? I think I like the ejection seat idea as long as there is some way of slowing it down to make the impact a lot less... Curious to what you think? |
Re: BlowTorch
I watched the show also.
I don't seem to recall them even mentioning Ken as the world record holder. They showed video, but did they ever mention Ken's name? :( |

Re: BlowTorch
If it was Rus Wicks, he is nobody but a bag of wind with a website that has be talking about breaking the record for years.

Hey,Sharkey.
Don't try an ejection seat unless you want to be injected into the water as the boat backflips or barrel rolls. Besides,by the time your brain tells your thumb to press a button,it will be too late. As for the other people talking about breaking the record,it is really just that.....TALK. Wicks just likes to see his name in print and cant get over the fact that Villwock,in Miss Budweiser,went faster than he did. The only boat he will ever run is the model on his web site. The brit,Nigel McNight,has been changing his launch date regularly since 1999,but still only has a steel frame built by John Getty of PDS in 2000.He seem to make a lot of cash with regular fund raisers,talking about what he is going to do.They bring in about $30,000 per time.That plus corporate sponsors and conned fans,he makes a nice income and seems to do little to finnish the boat. Nigel seems to prove that talk is NOT cheap as his bank book can attest. There are four or five others with models and talk that I have details on,but just talk. As for hull design,they all seem to think the reverse three pointer design will work and that shape does work well in a wind tunnel,but will kill you on the water for a number of basic reasons that an experienced hydro driver knows. It is interesting to see Jules Morgan of KPM joining the fray. I personally think that he is going to get a VERY rude shock if he builds a boat like the model he has shown recently.But I wish him luck and the record needs a real challenge and besides....what do I know. Re: BlowTorch
I mean really, how many of these posers can say " So I'm up over 200 and the rudder stops working because it's cavitating. :eek: We had fixed it on the old boat but I forgot about it." :D
I bet Ken has forgotten more than most of these guys will ever have the chance to learn about going fast on water. And when the record changes it will simply be a matter of writing in new numbers on the speed column. :p |

Ken I think they were relying on a lot of computer intelligence to actually push the button on the ejection seat, but I can see what you are saying. Either way, it still may not work the more I think about it. Better off having a capsule built that is nuclear bomb proof! ;) I recall seeing the show where you came back to get a little more edge on the speed of your boat, and you went and cut off a portion of your rudder. :eek: I was really scared for you at that point! I think it was a 1/2 an inch you took off??? But you pulled it off and have been the Fastest Man on Water ever since! I am honored to just have this correspondence with you here on this forum... YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! :drink: |

Re: BlowTorch
Hi Guys;
I agree with all of you Ken is`the man and my child hood hero. Our record attempt is going OK . But it is not easy , which goes to show how amazing kens record is. We have since changed the hull design and reduced the length, and we think it will work , but who knows. We are building our boat in our spare time and it is totally funded privately. We chose to do this since we did not want to get involved with the whole PR thing. Any way theres no more money left since Mac Knight has sucked it all up. Its all about the boat and thats all. we are fairly secretive not because we are worried obout other teams but we want to make our mistakes in our own time , think about it then rectify them with no debate. We seem to spend 10% of the time building the boat and 90% looking at it and deciding if it will work. Is this normal?? Please do not think that this is all Hi tech. We designed the boat in the PUB on a place mat. We then drew the out line on the floor of the factory. With reference to an ejector seat we do not have one . What we do have is a break away cell assisted by chutes. We dont have any computers , we have a pole with a drogue sticking out the back set to the angle of blow over . When it hits the water it pulls a cable that releases the chutes. Its that simple. Will it work . Dont know. I regret to say that I am well known for tipping boats.But thats commitment!. No its Stupidity? Ken if you are reading this thread I would love to chat to you and pick your brains about some of our ideas. We dont know if we dont try. Any way if we can get the boat finished and it moves then this would be a result. It will be more than the other teams. Oh well better go and cut some more chipboard. Only joking not really using chip board. MDF is much better???? Jules |
Re: BlowTorch
Me and Mr. Warby are going to break his old record in The Condo! We have a new design, has something to do with "CONCRETE" not cement! Ken Warby is THE MAN and my buddy.
