UIM DECISION REVERSES 2005 CHAMPIONSHIP OUTCOME Friday, 10 March: The UIM has circulated a set of amended results issued by Ali Bin Ghulaitha, Officer Of the Day (OOD) for rounds 6 and 7 the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship held in Dubai, following his disqualification of Qatar 96 from both races after receiving the results of a post championship dyno test, carried out on one of Qatar 96’s Mercury engines, which showed the engine to be over the stated power limit. As they stand, the amended results reverse the outcome of the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship with the title being awarded to Victory 77, Spirit of Norway dropping to second, Negotiator moving up to third place and Qatar 96 down to fourth. The amended results are open to appeal. |

Mercury needs to run restrictors like everyone else. How many teams competed in Class 1 in Dubai?

i thought the mercs were restricted, maybe by software? to 950 or so...

Thanks for the list Sean. My understanding is that you are correct about the horsepower restriction via software for Mercury but I believe that everyone else has to run an air intake restrictor. That's why we see the engine scoops like they are on the other Class 1 boats.
are we going to see a bud select boat over there anytime soon? :D now that would be a fun race to go see... :drink: |

I don't think my Sterling power qualifies. :drink: However, I do like several things about their racing - especially the rudder w/ shaft drives. Much safer than #6's on a race boat.

How about the high speed "long course" turns? If you watch closley they actually slide those boats around a turn ( with rudders!). Not to mention running 40 + ft boats like 28 skaters. They really hang those boats out. In fact the more I watch the tapes the more impressed I am with what they do. Very Ball-sy!!!!

QATAR 96 AND SPIRIT OF NORWAY APPEALS UPHELD Monday, 27 March: The appeals of Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway against the disqualification of Qatar 96 from rounds 6&7 of the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in Dubai have been upheld by the UIM Appeal Board. The outcome of the UIM Appeal Board’s decision reverses the action taken by Ali Bin Ghulaitha, Officer Of the Day (OOD) for rounds 6&7 to issue an amended set of results based on the results of a post championship dyno test on one of Qatar 96’s Mercury engines. The disqualification of Qatar 96 is overturned and with their points reinstated they move back to third overall in the 2005 championship standings, Victory 77 move back to second with Spirit of Norway’s Bard Eker and Steve Curtis reinstated as the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Champions.
