Just talked to Joe Sgro and he said the boat is destroyed.It caught fire :( :(

Happened after the race heading back in.They smelled smoke and they couldnt get it under control when it went up in flames.

They were running in 4th with one lap to go, it looked like one engine let go and they idled back to the crane. About 250 yards from the crane the boat went up. Joe and Bret are OK the boat looks like a total

Wow I saw that boat after the race, he was coming back into Government cut as I was heading out, passed him near Smith and Wolensky, we saw the smoke later, wondered what it was.

the boat is done. it's fried from bow to stern. I was told they had a fuel leck in the engine room. everyone is OK

Sad news but these guys are Diehards and I have seen first hand Joe over the years and he will not give up.Sorry for the loss. :(

Just watched channel 7 coverage, as usual, they got it wrong.

i too am sorry for your loss. i also thought it was very shallow of the reporter to focus (punn intended) on the sunglasses and the model instead of the actual story. hope to see you back racing soon.

Very sad day. :( They were running GREAT all day and i'm sure they will come back with a new boat better than ever. Regaurds Joe but glad you guy's are safe.. Dave

Not to defend the reporters, but 2 of the 3 got there after the fire. One as the boat was being put on the trailer. They hauled it away pretty fast so they may have only had so much for actual story time.......

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I think that's part of the problem with the media today, they weren't there to get all the facts, so they just made them up!!!!

The "minimal cooperation remark"was based on comments made to me by Joe Sgro on the dock as they were taking the wreckage from the water.
Generally speaking; in situations as this, what happens early in the process can make a HUGE difference as to the $$$$ amount of loss one incurs.
A fire, while unfortunate, is not to fear. A fire that has been allowed out of control is a different thing. I think the word Sgro used was "unnessecary". In any event, it`s a bad feeling to watch something like this.

It's sad to see any boat destroyed, especially one that has had a lot of work, sweat and love gone into it.
Glad to hear no one was injured in the ordeal.
