Anyone????

Has anyone had any issues with the new gas in a merc motor? Just wondering if the computor adjust to the differant burn of the new gas. Is there a differace in HP?? I have not had any problems that I can tell yet.

The computer cannot adjust because it has no O2 sensors. Most of the engines are tuned "fat" enough t not cause a problem. I lost about 2 mph from my boat with 502 MPI's-no other changes.

I was getting ready for more testing with different setups when someone asked me the question. Our base line props are missing so we have no data to compare. Does the new fuel have anything to do with HP? I keep calling it the new fuel because Im not sure what it's mixed with. Do most of the fuel trucks at the races have the new mix in there 89-92 octanes?

Randy, do you mean ethonol? I believe the fuel truck at races DOES NOT have ethonol , someone correct me if I am wrong.

Is it true the Ethanol will loosen built up sediment inside a tank witch could block fuel pumps or filters ? or breaking down resin in poly tanks?

All I know is that the new fuel/ethanol clogged the jets in my scooter carb

The new gas with ethanol will eat up fiberglass tanks. Ethanol is basically a solvent, that will also loosen up old varnish in your tanks and will eat thru older rubber fuel lines. Its been a nightmare to people with older boats. It also jells when it make contact with water. Boat US magazine just had an article about it. :(

ive had ethanol problems in a 496. it actually gummed up some of the injectors it has a redish tint in the filters. one thing that seemed to help was using very fine micron fuel filters . i see more people having issues with the same as the season goes by it sukks
