Diesel Engines

Are there any classes in APBA/SBIP or OSS that allow diesel engines?

Re: Diesel Engines

With Audi doing so well with their Prototype Race car using a Diesel engine,, you think more companies would be thinking about them for race boats?
Plus the Audi ones have been pretty much bullet proof and not breaking.

Thank you
Jim

The Australian Version of the APBA allowed diesels in the past. Only the class 1 and 2 boys ran them as all other classes are dominated by outboards. They had Detroits with, I think, about 2000 hp each. All new boats must be petrol but there is one diesel boat left and it is the fastest boat in terms of top speed. From memory it is about 20mph faster than the twin Lamborghini boats. Diesels were allowed double the engine capacity and did have to run more weight but it all helps in the ocean.

The reason they have been stopped using diesels is that they were banned in Europe and we follow their rules.

Any of the "P" Classes or Speed Bracketed classes you could run Diesel's. P1-P6, just find the class that fits your speed.

The Audi Diesel is a V12 5.5 litres and making about 650+ hp.
And it can last racing the 24 hours of Le Mars and win it.

Thank you

We raced with Yanmar's in 03 and 04 in the P classes in a 42' Fountain. The boat and engine worked well.
