Canopy specs, Lavin?
I have read a bit on here and in the rule books, or SBI and U.I.M but where can one come up with a written set of specifics regarding canopy construction. Are the Lavin Guidelines available and are these the requirements for a SVL canopy? Does it have specs as to lens thickness and dimensions of open ( unsupported ) areas? Could these be used to construct a canopy without trying to purchase one from Skater or MTI or something. Also are there separate specs to roll bar dimensions and materials? I notice large windshields on most Extremes and Phantoms. Please get me in the right direction to build a top that will conform to all rules of all organizations.

Besides the lavin Guidelines, I would call skater or MTI and really get some good advice from both they build state of the art systems, SAFETY is not a area that is to be second guessed. Contact OSS as well their Safety may be able to help you out as well.

WHo is George Linder?? i saw a number for him on another post but could net get intouch with him do you have a good number or email? Who is he? Why would he know?

Pete, I know safety shouldn't be second guessed that is why i am looking for the guidelines, However i also don't think one should have to pay whatever the cost would be to have Skater make one up. I also half know Scism but i can only imagagine what the cost would be for a part like that which would take a mold out of rotation for a while. By the way I see you have listed that you have a python vector. The very first person i worked for in the marine industry back in Illinois had worked for Python and recently purchased the molds for that boat. He also owns a 18 viper. Very cool boats I hope he does well with them. I have been around a few both the 24 and 18.

I wasnt suggesting you buy from them merely asking for advice due to the advances in composites, knowing they utilize the latest technolgies in thier product. Good luck with your project, show us some updates it would make for a good thread! |
The original Phython's were from Michigan, Romulus to be exact. I forget the owners name moved to Georgia. My step dad had a 24 with twin Evinrude 235's.

The current owner of the molds is in Morris IL on the river, He is a really good fiberglass guy does a lot of bottom straightening. One of my buddies had a 24 they did the bottom on and had big NA power in it. That thing ran well in the 90's on radar with nothing but prop and cav plate, kind of sick ride. I will get ahold of sonny and see if i can get something rolling, I have two projects one is a old cat 30' that i am redoing the bottom on but it will probably go open top. I am just interested in collecting data and costs to get into a vee lite,
