Round Britain 2008

I'm going to be in a boat for one of the legs of the Round Britain Powerboat Race - the biggest race for a long time! http://roundbritainrace.co.uk I'm doing the bit from Bangor in Northern Ireland to Oban in Scotland and reporting on it for a magazine - I already did the preview last month - can't wait! The race starts tomorrow and I'll be at the first stop in Plymouth which is near my home to meet the crews after the first leg - I think it should be rougher on day two and it will be a big mental barrier for a lot of the crews that have no experience of this sort of event to set off round Lands End (south west corner of England) as it's a long way from anywhere! We also laminated the Hull and deck for one of the boats - the customer has rigged the boat and joined the two halves together, I also know a lot of the crews and have raced against many of them, so it will be especially interesting for me - One of the P1 teams is taking part - Buzzi Bullit III

Well I'm back - the run across from Ireland to Scotland was OK, and the trip through the Caledonian canal from West to East was fantastic although a little wet at times. Luckily we avoided the worst of the rain by sheltering in a pub!

The boat that we did the laminating on came second in class due to mechanical gremlins but came through the event without a scratch.

The event was a total success with only a couple of incidents with no serious injuries that I am aware of.

It's a shame that it is uncertain when the next event will be or even if there will be another one ever!
