Supercat motors could been built under that name if they had the same specs ,they did not all come from merc !

It was a 510 ci drysump N/A motor with somewhere between 750 and 820 HP most of them did around 790 HP .

Atleast ,thats what i heard.

The ones with the APBA logo on the side of the intake, i believe where Class 1 motors ?! But not shure.

And they had about 900-980 HP with old KE stacks on them ????

'supercat' just means it was built to a spec...

here are some later model merc supercat engines...

Nah supercat is just a spec class engine, I believe Merc and Sterling were the suppliers.

I have one complete "supercat" motor and another top end on my 489. With the rules open to mods I would NOT stick with the motors as is. Go thru them and find out what you got. The lower end and valvetrain were killer on the real supercats, 7500rpm was norm I believe. Callies, Oliver, T&D, Brodix etc all the good stuff. Always good to know what you've got in it and while the motor is down you can pick the best cam for your application and do MUCH needed headwork. Spec heads really seemed to limit the power on these engines. Let me know if you get it and I can work with you on developing that into a KILLER package.

As an example, my pleasure motor was just completed by Champion Performance and is 489" making 695hp @ just 6400 and 615ft-lb of torque with only an eagle lower assembly, 9.6:1, 93oct and less than optimal cam. They took my stash of parts and turned them into a top-notch piece. The spec Brodix Big Brodie APBA heads really need work to make the most power (although total overkill for my 489/low revs). They have a great guy working for them and i know that's were a bulk of the power came from. :party-smiley-004:. Power was still climbing but with the eagle lower assembly I did not want to push it any further. Not to mention its going in front of a pretty standard bravo :grinser010: I will be having the second set of heads flowed to see the cfm #s before I decide on a final displacement of the race motor (522, 572 or 598)

Hope you get this boat and get it out on the course!!! Although just what need...another damn canopied Fountain!!!

Sounds about right on the power and they make that at high rpm (7500?). Wonder if they'll spin that high stock on a heavy V versus a cat???

I think they where more like 7800 RPM rated.

But who cares if the pistons fall out at 5k or 8k .LOL

do what??

thats not somethin i wanna hear! is that an issue with these?

fantastixvoyage 10-15-2008 06:27 PM

Haha no I think he meant it'll do about the same damage at 5k as it will at 8k!

Good pieces in the real supercat, now its just a matter of the quality of build...
