Confused about classes and Series..
Im a little bit confused with all the different classes and series that are being run in offshore racing. I am interested in racing and would liike to try and do a couple next year (as budget/schedule allows) but not sure where to really start with it.
There seems likes theres quite a few organizations racing. OPA, SBI, APBA,... What are the differences and can you race in multiple series and classes? The boat Im considering is a 30 twin o/b under 300 hp/side. What class would that be and would it be allowed to race in other venues besides the original class I sign up for? Those of you that race, do you only race one series or do you race with multiple organizations. Seems like its a little scattered. Can someone shed some light on the different classes and series and where they race at? Thanks! |
Most of the guys that have Cat Outboard / Super Stock boats race all over the place. The SS class is the only class that is raced under the same rules around the world. You can race OPA. SBI, POPRA or OSS here in the US. You should look at spending about $5,000.00 per race total to run in this class. Right now there are boats for sale between $75,000 - $190,000.....

Is that $5k including travel expenses and fuel or is that entry fees?
|
You can race OPA for $1000 for the whole year. Not including travel. there are already several threads on this.

About 5K per race for ALL expenses, barring any major failures.

If you are not running a canopy it will be a "p class" boat. Cheaper and a good starting point. You can still run a canopy in P class.
It is just a max mph class. P1 115 max, P2 100 max and so on.... pat W |
What class would a twin small block v8 engines/outdrives, 27' Vee Bottom, be in when you add superchargers? Are the 2d and 3rd men required in an open (no canopy) boat and what fuel type is required? Thanks Delta5

The only restriction in P class is speed, every class has a GPS max speed.
