Thanks Randy you need to make the trip out to this coast for Havasu or the Rum Run..

Augie or Ratbastered as Vern calls you. How are you doing?

We might need you to come out and take Verns place for the next rough race.... He was not able to stay in the bolster in the Rum Run last year so we made some seat mods for him in San Diego (see pics) not sure if they work yet because it was flat.

They moved out of Ca to AZ. Not possible to build boats here cost effectively.

Happy New Years!!!

AugiePensa 01-07-2010 12:44 PM

Yeah, thats what he call me. Gotta love him and I do! That seat is just about right for Vern. Pat, is there a milk crate under the seat so Vern can use it to get up into the seat? Happy New Year Brother

shifter 01-13-2010 10:11 AM

Augie,

His little feet kept falling through the holes in the crates so we just set him in there.:evilb:

quick notes from popra bod meeting.

Dana Point several laps in front of Doheeny State Beach, parallel to PCH both Saturday and Sunday.

Havasu race looks like it will be fun with the speed runs then the race on Sunday. Good for race fans with a center of the action seat in the middle of the course... details coming.

anyone interested in helping out at the races being a patrol boat or corner boat let me know. We need lots of help to put the races on...

Also anyone wanting to race for the first time or is thinking about getting into offshore racing please contact me for details.

Brad,

Thank you for thinking about us folks in Northern Cal
Be great to have a National Race from one of the National groups back here or even a Powerboat P1 races in the San Francisco Bay Area. We could even keep it inside the Golden Gate Bridge for any one that doesn't like the rough water.

Thank you
Jim

Pat, talked to The Rat Ba$tard this morning, about 8:30 AM. he don't sleep much since he moved. Well anyway, The Rat Ba$tard asked how come I didn't send him $$$$$$$$$$ and said Hey to you!

crichdsn 01-29-2010 02:15 PM

pat,i wish everyday that we would get back into it again.i think that they have abosolutely no interest in doing it again.maybe one day i will make enough$ to buy a boat and start racing myself.i had a great time working with you guys and everyone else involved with racing.i am still trying to get down there to visit with you guys.if you guys are ever up here shoot me a call.5103819223.looking forward to seeing racining with big numbers like the old days up here soon.

shifter 01-31-2010 12:38 AM

Augie, He is just Old Ba$tard.... Make sure you guys come out Wednesday thru Sunday. You can store the rigs out here at my place for nothing and race the Rum Run too if you want. Need to beat Vern more than once.

Craig, Tell Chris he can just sponsor his old boat.....:evilb:
You can come down to the races and help so that way you earn a seat. Just a thought. The Who's bunch needs some help. Bring your $ too.

The joint POPRA event with RPM Racing Enterprises in Dana Point on March 27th and 28th has run into an issue with the Grey whale migration. After going through all of the spotting and clearing plans (helicopter, boat, etc.) with the officials, the answer was that we would not be supported by the Dana Point Harbor. We believe that the site is a great location but the possible negative publicity from the whale activist groups could ruin any chance of future offshore events in the area. We are working with the Dana Point community to come up with a future date that does not conflict with OPA, OSS, or SBI race dates. We will keep you informed as thing progress.

POPRA accepts invitation to join OPA in Orange Beach

Hello Racers and Race Fans,

We are pleased to announce that the teams from the Pacific Offshore Racing Association (POPRA) have accepted our invitation to make the races in Orange Beach Alabama a joint World Championship featuring race teams from both East and West Coasts.
Brad Johnson, President of POPRA states: “I’ve spoken to all of our teams and everyone is excited to accept the invitation that OPA has extended to join them in Orange Beach this coming October. The POPRA teams will come prepared and look forward to taking home a majority of the trophies. Hopefully this can turn into an annual East/West Shootout type event.”
Ed Smith, President of OPA states: “We wanted to bring a huge even to Orange Beach and the addition of the POPRA racers is just what’s needed to give this event the scope that it deserves. Making this a joint event with POPRA is just the first step, all teams should know that they are welcome to race in Orange Beach with no entry fees and no registration fees. Just come and race, see who’s really the best and leave the BS on the beach where it belongs.”
See ya at the races,
The OPA Family

Nicely done OPA.....these developments are very positive and enlightening.

AugiePensa 02-05-2010 08:07 AM

Julie, I hope it's gonna be like the early 2000's, Remember? Everyone had fun :ernaehrung004:and it was a pleasure to see everyone at :circle:every race. Smitty, Louie The Rigger and I decided (With A Little Help From Our Friends:cool-smiley-011:) that we were gonna make 2010 a year where all the teams eyeballs :party-smiley-048:spun like SLOT MACHINES! And everyone knows how I love my OPA/Jersey Boyz Teams and Slot Machines. Being I can't race just yet Smitty, Louie and Scotty B want me to start cooking again :party-smiley-020:so I'm in for that. I think Haggin may get me a new Jersey Boyz Grill. You all wanted Excitement, Unity, Press, Great Sites, TV, and plenty of competition, :Score-101010:well we're giving it you and we hope you will all take advantage of all the hard work sooooooooo many people put into this. ENJOY! The Godfather:violent040:

DriverofDonzi 02-05-2010 09:02 AM

Holy smoke!!!!! That's even more awesome. I started attending races in 2006 and I have watched Offshore Boat racing grow big as time goes by. This is beyond unbelivable!!! Thanks for brighting up my day! Cant wait! :) :) :)

Chris

throttleup 02-05-2010 09:08 AM

Augie....you are so right! The comradere was as thick in the air, as all the food we grilled! What fun that was, back then. That is when we entered the Offshore arena....and I remember so clearly meeting you and da boyz from up north.

I so very much hope that you can bring that all back. WE so very much want that to happen. We want to be a part of that again! Even manning the grill! That is the position of holding the purse string and drawing it TOGETHER my friend, that has you written all over it! I for one cannot wait to see you do, just that~!

Thank you Smitty, Augie, Louie and everyone else on deck!

Dude! Sweet! 02-06-2010 12:47 AM

I don't come on this site much anymore, but happened to be surfing around tonight. So Dana Point in March is toast?

I've talked to Troy and Pat W. We're making plans to run POPRA this year. Not 100% at this point (Pat's had his ear bent enough about that already), but that's the plan at this point.

Hey Brad, could you add me to your email list? Troy and Pat have my personal email address, but I figured I'd give you the new email for the boat racing so the rest of my guys can stay in the loop too. Email is [email protected].

Thanks,

Sean

I've already invited customers to the Dana Pt race.:(

Sean, let's make it a run anyway! Launch at Dana and run to Avalon and back. Or could do Newport or Oceanside and back.

Anyone else want to join us?

Dude! Sweet! 02-07-2010 08:27 AM

If the race is dead, I'm down with that Al. No reason not to go out dancin' if you already got your prom dress. And I'm sure I can scare up some other guys who are looking to go play in the ocean too.

Brad Johnson 02-07-2010 11:01 AM

An incident with a whale could give all of us a black eye.

The race in Dana Point is not "dead". We have chosen to move the date out of respect. If a bunch of you go ahead with a run please keep in mind that there are Grey whales sharing the water with you.

Thanks for the heads up on the whales. I run out of Dana on a regular basis. This will be a pleasure run and we'll keep an eye out for the whales and other sea life as we always do. It would be cool to see some out there. When I run out there I quite often stop for the dolphins as we see them almost every time out but seldom see whales.

Maybe we'll call this our first annual "Grey Whale Run". :D

Will anxiously await for the announcement of the rescheduled race date.

We have a BOD meeting tonight to discuss the date change among other things. Any date requests??? Dana Point is a great venue so we just need a good time of year to get it set so we can make it an anual event. You have to throw it against the wall to see if it will stick....

Nort!!! (I feel like I'm at Cheers.) Hey Tom. What's shakin' guys?

PhantomChaos 04-13-2010 09:56 PM

Just trying to get out boating! I didn't know you raced!

Dude! Sweet! 04-13-2010 10:51 PM

Bought a race boat last year and had to do some re-rigging and rebuild on my motor. I was going to race with POPRA but decided to focus on doing the Catalina race instead. We're going to to do the grass roots race at Puddingstone this weekend and we've had our skiier out practicing a bit in the ocean as well. Good times...

PhantomChaos 04-21-2010 10:45 AM

Sean.....that is awesome! What class in the ski race?

Dude! Sweet! 04-21-2010 10:59 AM

We'd like to do mixed doubles, but that's going to depend on our skiiers. I'd say next option is over and back if they're both game come July and if not, then I'd guess we'll do Sr. Womens' (and this is totally a guess at which of our skiiers won't be ready based on who's been practicing).

We were out at Puddingstone this weekend doing the NWSRA grass roots series races. Had a great time.

PhantomChaos 04-21-2010 12:06 PM

Sean....isn't mixed doubles over and back or it is two skiers at once? Never been to Puddingstone but have heard it is a good time.

Dude! Sweet! 04-21-2010 12:14 PM

Mixed doubles is two skiers at the same time all the way around... One skier's a dude, and the other's a broad.

I never even knew where puddingstone was before last week and I've probably driven past the entrance 20 times. Suprisingly senic.
