Is it just me or did those guys in the "old days" not understand how to fly level. It's cool to see a boat go bow high but today the balance is much better and the jumps less dramatic.

Ron, for my money that's because the race courses today simply don't take in those huge long rollers that the racers used to encounter out in the open ocean. Or put it another way - I think to judge someone's ability to trim a boat based on the odd rogue wave is a little unfare!

Maybe your right, but I recalling seeing a ton of bow high shots from back then (way cool photos). Maybe the newer boats have better balance. Or maybe the waves are smaller.

Too bad AC got cancelled. I wish we could have run just one lap in those 20' swells.

Here's a thought - did those guys have bow tanks? I doubt it - who's in the know?? Maybe someone on here can answer that for me!

thats a lot of it on the plymouth races from 94/90,87 they were in cape cod bay just running a couple miles out but in 90 because of browns bank there were big long swells in the backside of the coarse boats were flying bow high and main straigh away running in 3 to 4s short waves getting bounced around. way back they ran to Ptown area that was like 20 miles to 1st turn haha, they had k planes in the 70s 80s but not 380s they had 280s and the double wide ones twin piston not sure on tanks but drives were deep with trs/sm 2s, real deep Xs seem to push bow up did on my boats and rran flatter with shortie drives.
