Looking like the boats will be leaving end of November and the 3 days of racing will take place the end of January. That was the latest info. at the drivers meeting Saturday morning. Right now it looks like 4 of the SBI Cat Classes are going. We were told that will be subject to change depending on the room on the ship.

This will be a true world class event with teams from numerous different countries.

Please keep posting updates. Im stuck in europe and told the wife I want to take her to where they filmed sex and the city(I only watched that with her so I could get sex) and its not that far of a trip there. Shes a little shocked why I want to take her some where but I told her I love her and just because. If i book tickets before she finds out whats really going on she wont cancel.

Right now its looks like the boats will leaving out of Jacksonville, but they did mention if that was an issue in anyway it would still be another Fla port.

Could all the teams I spoke to with this week please email me a letter of Intent that you would like to attend the Qatar race in January . As soon as I get all the info I can pass it on and add your team to the proposal. As we talked about last week it is still a work in progress, so the sooner we get all the info. together the sooner we can get some anwsers. From all the teams I have spoken with looks like we have a solid 9 boats to date that would like to go.

Not yet getting close, Peters and May just sent out an email today to all the teams. They said they are getting close with scheduleing. Right now they are looking at Nov 28th out of Jacksonville to ship the boats, but not in stone.

Still haven't gotten a firm answer , a proposal was submitted for the SV class.

Race dates scheduled yet? I need to plan a trip to Dubai and want to align travel dates.

Yes it is invitation only, and the deal is not sure yet what the deal is Lol

Airline tickets are about $1500.00 per person , and hotels are about $150.00 a night Plus.

Race date established yet?!?!?! I am trying to align a business trip to Dubai near the same time.

Wow! First China now Qatar what a shame. Would have been huge with a $500,000 purse.

If it was the Qatar Poker run there would be 150 boats going over. And no biitchin.

So what?While poker runs are fun and showcase beautiful equipment;its not racing!Poker runs certainly have a place, but please stop the camparisons to sanctioned offshore powerboat racing.

I have been a racer in OB CAT 2003-2005. I know how this story goes.

Now, my POINT was that the racing orgs ALWAYS promise something and don't deliver. One year it was China, one year it was CBS Sports Spectacular, the SuperBowl, now Qatar. $20 bet says the problem wasn't on the Qatar side. I am sure the QMSF did everything possible to make it happen.

On the Poker Run circuit people go for fun. They will spend 5x what a race team will if there is a good party and a new place to boat. That is why if the Qatar event was a poker run it would be happening in large numbers and no in-fighting the way the race venues and orgs have become.

Simple logic, too many hands out in racing for too few dollars. From the venues or the racers.

It was Qatars show and they made all the decision. They spoke to the racers directly and just dont think the interest was where with the cost it would of been to the teams,

One of the problems here was that there was never any firm information available on the details of this race, its kinda of difficult to commit to something that is "iffy' form the get go, what would happen if all the boats that did go got stuck in Qatar. A race like this has to have full commitment form the promotor/organisers in the first place to inspire the confidence in the teams to go

Maybe the Sheik would have liked to pay for transport of 40 of his racing friends boats. He doesn't have a ship laying around he could use? If there was a free ride I bet there would be lots of interest. just sayin

The shipping was to be paid for and arraigned by Peters and May (Free), and each team was to be paid approx $13,000.00 to go. The hotel rooms were $150-175 a night and flights were $1,600.00 EACH...... and the boats were to be gone for two months...

If you were having a problem getting boats maybe you could have invited opa teams.

Some OPA teams were contacted and didnt show interest either.
