Port Huron Michigan anyone???
I cannot figure out for the life of me why we can't seem to get teams to come to Port Huron. The prize purse is larger than last year, it's a good site, and teams are already up this way - only to head back home.
Thoughts?? We are trying like crazy to build a site where everyone wants to come and have a great weekend. Unfortunately I can't seem to get everyone on board. If you know of someone who was not at St. Clair and is planning on attending, Please let me know. Thanks Brian K Port Huron/Sarnia International Offshore |
The course is awesome, the layout in the pits is roomy and open, The down town area is only a short walk or quick pit cart ride away.. I honestly don't know. Maybe its to close to St Clair (thinking out loud), maybe its difficult for teams to take time off work to fix and maintain the boats and than take time off work to drive Friday.
Historically how do second site do when events are raced back to back? |

Historically how do second site do when events are raced back to back? Can't answer for the Race Teams but just my 2 cents as a race fan and spectator. My summer consist of the Detroit APBA Gold Cup Races, St. Clair River Classic, Skater Fest and the Port Huron/Sarnia International Offshore Powerboat Race. I have been going to these races and events for years. Rick you answered one question I believe in your post, maybe it is hard to take time off from work. There is a lot of travelling for many of the Teams and expenses when you add up travel, food, lodging and if you break something, that is one of the reasons I think. Michigan City just held their SBI race and it sounds like the boat count was down there this year, who knows why. Port Huron/Sarnia wasn't so great when I attended the first race but the boat counts increased and each year it has gotten better and last year it was real good. There seems to be alot of interest in Sarnia for this race and they have a good turnout of spectators on that side of the river as well as in Port Huron. Lets face it the more boats that race the better the race is and it is important to have a course that spectators can see the entire race course up close and the shorter course, creates continuous race action but that doesn't answer your question. The only thing I can see is that it is hard to get time off work and the expenses that are involved that you can only attend so many races on your race budget. I'm looking forward to the Port Huron/Sarnia International Offshore Powerboat Boat Race this weekend and come for both days. I also am planning on attend the Detroit International Motor City Grand Prix on September 5, 6, & 7 in front of the General Motors Building and across from Caesar's Windsor Casino. I hope that Miss Miss Geico Team U.S.A. , Team STIHL, JD BYRIDER, WHM Motorsports, Broadco, Cat Can Do, Cleveland Construction, Amsoil, Cintron, Warpaint and the rest of the Super Cat Class and Unlimited Class makes it down to the Motor City for the people of Detroit. OPA guys I love you guys battling it out at every race and seeing all the boats and teams. |
This morning some one told me that the missed work or time off is "offset" with travel money in some cases.. that very well might be, but some times its not always about the money. Some people cant keep taking long weekend every other week before the boss and other people you work with start looking at you like "part-time" - and thats not health for future employment.
We really should have 3 weeks minimum between events, maybe even 4. |
This Year is are first can't wait.

You out of anyone can probably answer that... How did St Clair do when it was the week after Harrison Twsp?
Im leaning towards the 2 week time frame as a major factor at this time. |
I'll be there shooting photos on turn 1! It's going to be a fun weekend.
