The 200-mile classic has long been recognized as one of powerboating’s toughest challenges, and comparisons have been made with motorsport events such as Le Mans and the Indy 500. Once again the Minnesota ice man Jeff Hall participated in this race in a 1963 31' Bertram Thunderstreak with Robin Ward owner of this classic race boat. To quote Cristian Toll he said [ This Bertram very nearly completed a very rough Cowes Torquay where most of the more modern and expensive machinery failed. 14 boats started, 3 officially finished and these guy were 7 miles from home but developed a problem that sadly put them out of the race. Hats off to Robin Ward, Jeff Hall and Bertram boats.]
Richard Carr, Steve Curtis and Paul Sinclair won the 2016 Cowes Torquay Cowes in a 46' Cougar. Only 3 boats made it to the West Country, Cougar 46, Blastoff Racing and Biretta Due. Thunderstreak put in an incredible performance but sadly finished outside of the Time Limit the race was called a Demolition Derby.
