We have been working toward this for a long time and finally it is here. Real open ocean offshore racing! OCEAN CUP RACE SERIES www.OceanCup.com for rules and regulations Governing Bodies: Powerboat P1 / UIM / APBA RACE BOATS QUALIFICATIONS: Up to 50 feet in length Vee bottom and twin hull catamaran style boats 1,000 to 1,600 HP Engines Operated by two pilots - 1 driver, - 1 throttle man Equipped with State of the Art Satellite Navigation Racing against the clock at 140 MPH Boats staged at event site for fans enjoyment That's right you can race offshore, out of sight of land, all the way from West Palm Beach Florida to Freeport Grand Bahamas. Distance of 100 miles each way, with a stop off and party over night in the Bahamas. For those old enough to remember, I am talking about the re-creating of the Gateway Marathon of the 1960's era. It will be held on June 5 -6, 2020 First entries have been received and are the Deep Vee of Nigel Hook and the Mystic Turbine Catamaran of Nigel Bhagan. More entries are promised from the racers of Trinidad and Tobago. EXTRA - EXTRA - EXTRA................. OLD SCHOOL CRUISE HORBA / SEARACE ...is organizing a Old School Cruise on the same weekend, that will be open to Historic Offshore Race Boats, that have been restored. This cruise will cover the same course as the Ocean Cup Race, but at a much easier pace at a different time. These restored offshore race boats will run over as a group and we are requesting a 50 to 60 MPH speed be attainable for these restored boats. (Depending on weather) Modern Offshore Boats that would like to cross with the restored race boats, are also invited to participate. Modern boats will run in a different group as the restored race boats. There will be hotels available for the overnight stay in the Bahamas. Gateway Marathon - 1964-1969
The Gateway Marathon is now recognized as a APBA/UIM World Speed Record and it will be held again this June 5 & 6.
The race course and instructions are available at OceanCup. Entry and Registration is with Powerboat P1. The current World Record is held by Nigel Hook and Michael Silfverberg #77 Lucas Oil SilverHook outbound 1hr 3min 43sec averaging 95.326mph inbound 1hr 5min 36sec averaging 91.646mph |
