John Franco & I are planning on four races in P-5. The name of our team will be "Sonic Boom" racing!:D

Fast Shafts 12-23-2002 03:43 PM

Tom R,
What kind of hull is "Sonic Boom"? Sonic?

All you 28 Pantaras need to be in P4 unless you are a rookie. Those are great running boats in the ocean and most of the races are in the ocean. If you think F1 should be in P3 thats fine with me also.Lets make sure we all race at full speed and not play the game of not trying to break out.Im new in this P class and we only no one way to race (balls to the wall) no holding back trying not to exceed some speed limit.

You can eliminate this by having less classes and forget about point.Just plain go out and beat as many boats as you can.It would be alot more fun anyway.Make your challange in the pits with your other conpetetors.

Randy,

I AGREE! P5 for entry level, rookies and pleasure-performance boats. P4 for any other single engine race boat.
Racing in the ocean in 5' seas it doesn't matter if you have a 28' with 800 horsepower, or a 28' with an HP 500 horsepower. It becomes a matter of who has the biggest balls and who throttles/trims the boat the best. I would also agree that P5 should be for rookies gaining experience. Maybe after one season or X amount of races, the team should be required to step up to P4. This also prevents "GPS Racing".
I will definately step up once my boat is complete and dialed in.
Can we challange anyone else to step up???????????;)

Robert,

There should not be a a requirement to step up. If you have a legitimate P5 boat that's were you belong. Example would be a team does 4 or 5 races in P5 never places in the top 3. Top speed is 69 mph. How could you expect them to step up. New engine, more HP? How fast can you expect some of these 24' boats to go with a measure of safety? Also one of the reasons for p class is to make racing more affordable. The only criteria with APBA is top speed and that's what we need to monitor. Now if you wanted to limit length, total horsepower, number of engines in a class, that's a different story.

Robert,
Sonic Boom is a 1995 28ft Sonic

Ray,

You've got a valid point. I didnt think of this before posting. Thats one of the great things about this forum!
I do agree with boats stepping up that are F1 legal and that could be competitive with Typhoon. This would build the numbers in P4 and leave P5 for the smaller boats or rookie teams. Bracket Racing is far from perfect.

TYPHOON 12-26-2002 10:26 AM

Ray,You are exactly were you belong! You are the perfect example of what a P5 boat should be. My hat is off to teams like yours that hang in there even when you have other boats that dont belong.Keep your head high you are a winner in my book!
Randy
