Windshield removal/Race Fairing installation
I've got an older Fountain 10 Meter that I'm preping for GLSCS racing this spring. Anyone have experience removing a windshield?
I'm having difficulty locating the screws or studs that attach the lower front edge of the windshield to the front deck. I'd rather not go "exploring" needlessly into the headliner below without first knowing what I'm looking for. I'm guessing that most mid-1980's Fountain glass windshields were attached similarly. If you've been there and done that, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks, Brian |
Sorry P4 I havent had to do that, but just a suggestion, call Fountain customer service. It might take a couple of days for the engineers to find the drawings, but they are there somewhere. As much as Fountain has backed racing, I am sure they will do whatever they can to help you out.

Thanks F1. I called JJ at Pier 57, he set me straight. Had to pull the headliner - and much of the rest of my cabin - to expose the nuts on the underside of the deck. Fountain fills the recessed holes under the headliner with silicone, so there's no way to find them with the headliner in place. Fun night.
Windshield is off, now I need to either find a fairing (no luck so far), or build my own. There's a thread in the Tech Forum on a couple of guys making one out of Nida-core. I'm leaning toward using King Starboard, as it's a solid material and accepts screws a little better. Strength is key, and I think I can stiffen it enough to survive a stuff, God forbid. Good luck on the race course this year. |
