I think its a great move for SBI

Steve,
My posting of my comments on this site were due to my experiances from attending the site last year(2002). Nothing to do with myself favoring sanctioning bodies or anything else for that matter. Needless to say I do not appreciate a comment like that and am very suprised it came from you. I simply stated my feelings as I was present there last year. My accessments are based upon the location of the drypits and wetpits from last year. After searching the SBI website I see that they have moved the Pit locations to another location. Sorry for the Negative post about the location as it was not meant to demeanor SBI as a whole. I based it upon my attendance to the site last year. Last years pit area and crane areas did not seem to be adequate enough to host a World Championship. It seems that SBI felt the same way as they seemed to have moved the entire set up to another location. Glad that it is coming back to Florida. Applause for that.

I want to make something clear to people that say I favor one organization over another. Yes I have been a memeber and lean towards one organization more. After being involved with a few different organizations over the past few years I can say that they all have there goods and bads. Where I choose to go is up to me and not to anyone else. I am not trying to create a sanctioning body war that occurs on here time after time. It is just a shame that people take something you put down on a message board and create different meanings non associated with what you were feeling when you typed it.

I can say that after what was said negativly of the SBI Worlds last year I see they are making a strive to change that by keeping their racers happy. I for one do not know that the negatives were true or false as I did not attend those races last year.

Dennis,

With all due respect, comments such as "Horrible place if you ask me" are pretty damning. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and if you maintain this kind of opinion you'll do a fine job in helping to add another nail in the coffin of another race site. In the previous 4 seasons APBA has lost Biloxi, Baltimore, Cleveland, Fort Myers, Washington NC, Sarasota, San Diego, St. Pete, Toronto and quite possibly Corpus Christi. Whether they were APBA or SBI sites is irrelevant, the important point is that Offshore racers of all kinds lost several race sites that most likely will not resurface.

In the end Dennis, you can embrace your right to say whatever you want. At the same time you may also wonder, gee, what happened to all the places we use to race?

Until you've organized a race, written the checks, gathered the patrol boats, worked with cities and counties and police and coast guard, set the buoys, cleaned up the parking lot after the fact, been told in a hundred different ways what an idiot you are, underwrote the losses, then and only then, will you appreciate that any race site, anywhere, that allows racers to do their thing, is a gift.

Steve,

You are absolutely correct with stating that I do not know the amount of work that goes on to establish a race. I for one have heard stories of dealing with municipalities and so forth to make a race happen. Not to mention the amount of $$$$$'s needed to make an event happen. I for one would not want that job. Sorry again for not thoroughly thinking about what I was writing in my post without any real information on the subject. I appreciate your criticism for the things I stated as they were deserved.

Time and time again, another lesson learned here on OSO. Think before you type!!!!!!!!

Steve, I swear, you have to quit all your other cool jobs and become GRAND SUPREMO MUCHO GRANDE RACE ORGANIZATION CHIEF POOBAH. With your understanding and demeanor at the helm you could run the ONE and ONLY offshore race organization in the U.S. It is a shame that all the stops you listed are no more, and I was intimately involved with the demise of one (not my fault, I swear). And speaking from experience and observation, it is a huge task to hold a race and it's too bad more people don't know what goes into it. I can only ask one thing of all the members on the board.....

Please, if any location wants to have a race, support it as much as possible. No site will be perfect. Some people will have some problems everywhere. Some people will not get to park where they want, sit where they want, or eat what they want. But please try to understand that virtually everyone involved is doing their level best and most are doing it for free. Give them a break, keep the negatives to a minimum, and have a good time.
