In Part I ( http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=43424 ) we've shown you how Randy's new black F1 race boat was born, from gelcoat to the mating of deck and hull.

In Part II, we will show you the rigging of the beast.

Speaking of black F1 race boat: Kryptonite is an equal opportunity boat builder, as the image attests.

Randy's new boat to the left. My new boat to the right. Both equally motorized. Both equally unfinished.

Now, let's focus on the rigging of Randy's racer.

The Marine Machine gimbal is the home of the XR drive. Remember the mounting of the K-Planes. It looks like it's mounted wrong. But it isn't. We'll get to it in a minute.

Kirk and rigger Bo discuss the mounting of the K-Planes.

Instead of at an angle as usual, the planes will be mounted horizontally, with the outer edge of the planes extending the lines of the lifting strakes.

Mounting the planes at an angle would result in a wedge, which creates drag.

Mounting the planes horizontally makes them work more like flaps on an airplane.

Mounted this way, they require less tab angle, and hence a much lighter touch on Randy's part. A little tab goes a long way.

The planes will be finished with small stainless steel vertical canards as the ultimate extension of the lifting strakes. This will provide even more directional stability. The fact that F1-29 missed the buoy in Daytona is purely coincidental.

Beats me why Randy is all in a sudden advocating a 496 for F1 ( http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=48427 ) Wouldn't you just want to take this beauty home with you?

You could buy 2-496's for the price of 1-525.
