KW citizens oblivious to brouhaha

While the offshore racing universe is up in arms about the exodus of this year's Offshore World Championship from Key West to Alabama, it's business as usual in the nation's southernmost city.

Keysnews.com, the Florida Keys only daily online news, today leads with "T-shirt shops fined for overcharging." Not a mention of the impending APBA disaster.

Even a search of the obituaries was unsuccessful. http://keysnews.com/current_obits.bsp.htm

Jimmy Weekly, Mayor of Key West, had to hear from OSO Moderator Baja Daze that the race isn't sanctioned by APBA. The Mayor subsequently revealed that Key West organizers had not even applied for the proper license.

Also, Yahoo Travel still solicits travel arrangements for the "APBA Offshore World Championship" in Key West:

"Sponsored by the American Powerboat Association, the deafening roar of 750-horsepower engines will propel beautiful, sleek and super fast powerboats across Key West's aquamarine waters at this event. Thousands of viewers line the shores to watch this breathtaking extreme sport in action, which is in two parts. Vendors will be selling racing gear, souvenirs and lots of great Key West food. Live entertainment, music and dancing add to the week-long extravaganza."
