Carrera?? Florida Race boat
Anyone know this boat or team? I was interested in their boat but need more info. I believe they raced in Florida under A-21 (its purple and yellow).
Also does anyone know about Carrera as raceboats? Doesn't seem like a manufacturer that would be into racing. |
Carrera made alot of raceboats in the late 70's early 80's. There are currently two 24' raceboats in OPA and one in the Great Lakes series. They seem to be built solid! Check with Q-ball on this site-he races one in OPA.
If the one your looking at is the one without power in Miami, it looks like a good deal on paper, but I have not seen it. What class would you be racing in? It looks as though "A" class is growing again for next year. |
Team Mission Impoosible runs a 24 Carrera here in NJ.
Shes a screamer. |
To view photos of the OPA Carreras, go to
www.NJSPORTPICS.COM Then view "recent events" scroll to 8/15/03 and check out P5-23, P5-25. |
Ya actually it is the one advertised without power. I would be racing in the Silver Cup series under a performance type class. I'm looking for a reasonable starter boat to see if its something I really want to get into.
|
P5-25 Revolution Marine is a 24 Carrera. The boat is solid as a rock and makes a great starter boat. Carrera was into making offshore boats in the 70's and 80's. You will need some good power to get it moving but when she does she's a bear. I love my boat, I would recommend it to anyone.
|
P.S.- where is the one for sale in flordia?
|
Good question!!! I just looked tonight and it is off the site. Are these boats sit-down style or are they deep enought to use stand-up bolsters? Power will not be an issue as I love building performance motors. I was more concerned that 24' would not be enough boat especially for a beginner. I would like to get something in the 28' range with a single motor.

I KNOW ABOUT THE BOAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT,THAT BOAT IS FULLY RIGGED FOR RACING,SET DOWN THREE MAN BOLSTER.CARRERA BOATS PLACED IN FIRST IN ALOT OF RACES BACK IN THE 70`S AND 80`S ONE OF THE BIGGEST NAMES WAS DAMM CARRERA,THE OWNER AND BUILDER OF CARRERA HUMBERTO PICON WAS THE A GREAT RACER BACK IN THOSE DAYS.HIS BOATS WERE MADE TO TAKE PUNISHMENT AND LATER THE 24 MOLD WAS SOLD TO JULIO DEVARONA OF SCORPION POWER BOATS WHOM ALSO RACED BACK IN THE DAYS WITH WILLY DIAZ IN A 37 FOOT CIG CALLED EL BOSS.SO IF YOU WANT TO RACE IN THE RUFF WITH NO PROBLEM THAT IS AN AWESOME BOAT TO COMPETE IN.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU,ALBERT |
What do you guys prefer - sitdown or stand-up? I never realized people race sitting down in open canopy boats. It seems like if you're running in the nasty stuff (which I imagine is the norm in races) one would prefer to be standing.

FANTASTIXVOYAGE
THE PERSON WHO RACED AND RIGGED THIS BOAT IS
TONY MEDINA 305-688-0607 HE IS THE OWNER OF HIGH VOLTAGE MARINE IN MIAMI.I DONT KNOW IF THE BOAT STILLS BELONGS TO HIM OR NOT. |
If that boat is not aailable anymore and you want a great race boat , I have a 2002 Activator 27 foot with 35 hours on it. Sit down set up for 2 with a bench back seat for 3 more if you wanted. Great for Pleasure/Poker runs/Racing.
Has a 500HP Mercury Racing engine. Activators love all water... snotty or calm. Let me know for more info... it is the "GECKO TEQUILA" race boat from OPA & SBI last year. David 732-803-1121 |
Thanks Pantera - I have called Tony and am awaiting a return.

I have finally gotten a hold of the owner and he is e-mailing me pics later. The hull is a '78 totally redone in '96. Won the '96 and '97 championships. Has not been raced since. Has a #4, bw trans, exhaust, etc. Asking $20,000 w/o power. What do you all think? Boat's older than I would have liked. Any thoughts?
|
We do a modified sit down.... our seats are at a 45 degree angle. We find it is much more comfortable sitting rather than standing. When we stood we felt like we were going to fly out at any time. The boat has a tendency to chine occasionally. 20K is a good price with a #4 but see if you can talk him down a little. It is a great beginner boat, it's solid as a rock.
Fever mike....yes it is the same company that makes the center consoles......the company was sold years back to a fishing outfit.....word has it that the new owner is looking to get back into offshore stuff. |
p.s.- mine is a 1981 and the mission impossible boat is a 1982-they have won a couple times this year in apba. I would not worrk about the age if the boat is in good shape and surveys well
|
I have a 36 Carrera 1983 , all kevlar hull it is an ex race boat , i think it's the old DAWM CARRERA , it had #3's end 540's ,if any one is looking for a project i need to dump it Marc Lafleur 954-818-2483 cheap!!!!

Got in touch with the owner ( Tony of High Voltage Marine) seems like a nice guy. Says hi to the NJ guys, guess he knows you. I'll attach the pics he sent. I think I'm going to pass on it and see if I can find something more usable (you know play on Saturday, race on Sunday!) Although I think that was race on Sunday sell on Monday for you musle car fans.
I'll have to re-fit pics as they are too large. |
The Activator is perfect for pleasure and race.
Has a 3 man bench seat in back Drive & Trim controls custom put in on both sides , so you can run alone or have a throttleman control everything on race day! Give me a call . We can make the numbers work. Boat has sat for almost a year make me an offer. Ask any of the Jersey guys or anyone in APBA... Your not going to beat an activator. |
