We race P4 with POPRA, last year we had four boats at the Pittburg race.

There was one boat that raced P5.

How can I assist you?

Thanks for responding! I am considering running the P5 class, and was curious about the boat requirements and entry fee's. Could'nt get the rules and regs page to open on the Pacific offshore website. Also why don't they run in San Diego bay anymore? Thx.

It is my understanding that we will continue to run APBA rules, even if POPRA is not APBA sanctioned this year. I think that is still up in the air.

With that stated, you should download the APBA rules as if your boat is APBA legal it will be POPRA legal, the safety rules are the same.

There is one other boat that runs P5 right now, being Bad Influence (Joe Flechel), they are good guys and helped us out last year as we were getting started.

Wish I could answer you about San Diego, as you know from the website there are four planned races in 04.

There has been some talk about racing San Diego and/or Dana Point.

What boat do you have and what is the power?

In my opinion racing is much much funner than any poker run. In poker runs you can back off and tell everyone how fast you are, racing really shows your metal.

I love the poker run guys who talk about how fast they are in their big twins, then the water gets a little snotty and we kick their a$$ in our little 24'.

Anyway, let me know if I can be of additional help.

One other thing to consider.

Chris Reindl www.reindlpowerboats.com and I are working to try and lease his boats (5) for all of the POPRA races.

It is a great way to get started without the cost of buying a race boat. He has begun to repower the boats so that all of the "batboats" are powered roughly the same and can race togther once again.

Let me know if you are interested in this program. These boats drive and race like no other (especially with the new power).

Thx for all the info! The boat for now would be a Baja 24 Outlaw, with an HP500/carb clone unless something else comes along. I may try to find another boat less power, in the 28-30' range. I've got a few powerplants lying around. Have to see If I can make the race & work schedule come togather. I am also building a Schiada ski race boat at this time.
Since I am in Tucson, AZ it's a long tow to the races scheduled more north up the coast. Do you take your Nordic to Havasu? I try to spend as much time as I can there during the summer. Takes me about 6hrs to get there, so not so bad. Thx again.

It most definately would be a long long tow from Tucson, but we would love to have you all the same.

If there is anything I can do let me know, there is a fellow racer out of the Phoenix area, Greg Reichman who is campaigning a new super cat with the APBA (mostly out east) although it would be nice to get him to some POPRA races.

With the Baja with that engine you would probably be a little faster than 70, so you might have to run p4, with a 454mag you would be perfect for P5.

Have not made it to Havasu with the Nordic yet, although I threaten to go every year. We would love to come down to the Jamboree. We really like the boat, infact the wife will not let me sell it (I want a AMT or Spectre 30' cat with OB's).

Nice to have choices.

good luck,
Rick
