The Algonac Pictorial
The Dogpound, somewhere East of Algonac, MI
Algonac is a great racesite. This Sunday was the season's opener for the Silver Cup Series. And it was a weekend outing for some of the OSS guys who decided to drop in on Tom Abrams's summer cottage. http://www.phantomsveryown.com/image...ac/thatwas.jpg |

The OSS contingent was strong. And the OSS board members present seized the opportunity to have one of their famous telephone conferences with Billy Mauff, who celebrated his birthday back on Long Island

OSS President Paul Whittier doubled as the anchor person.

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
All three Nutz teams were present. Orange Nutz was the trailer queen of the weekend due to a blown water pump. Blue Nutz of Wild Card found their boat adorned with stickers intended to question their manhood.

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
The Nutz raced in P3, but the real race was between the Nutz. Blue Nutz took the early lead, with Black Nutz right behind them. Then Randy & BJ passed Willie & Larry.

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
In the last lap, Blue caught Black in the turn and finished ahead by two boatlengths.
In a controversial decision, the judges saw Black ahead of Blue, and the trophy was awarded to Team Typhoon. By that time, the Black Nutz were already somewhere in Ohio. In a quick telephone conference, it was decided that the Girls from Kuba had won fair and square, and that they will get their Kuban asses kicked in St. Pete. Both boats are evenly matched, and it should be an exciting race for the Nutz, and likewise for any challengers with balls. http://www.phantomsveryown.com/image...ac/willead.jpg |
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
In the "1 Motor v.v. 1 Motor" grudge match, KLaatu teamed up with Jerry Gilbreath in the Reliable Cat against Tom Abrams and Peconic in Black Nutz. Klaatu saw speeds up to 120 mph.

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
Peconic Did Not Start. Sources say he was scared, because of the marginal water depth in some places. So Klaatu&Jerry (left) was declared the Winner over Tom&BS (right.)

What were the results in SCL?
|
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
Blue definitely won over Black.
Hey, we didn't even attend the Awards and decided to haul derriere back East (this is reaching you from deep in PA on I-80.) We brought Trophy ***** who's sole purpose in life is to carry the Typhoon trophies (and to ***** about it.) Trophy ***** went home unemployed. When we heard (somewhere in Ohio) that we were awarded 3rd, we immediately launched a protest and sent the proper Nutz to collect their rightful winnings. Our biggest win is the fact that the Nutz are evenly matched, which should make for hairraising racing in St. Pete and beyond. And we'll bring the ***** to all the races. |
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
FYI, setup info on Black & Blue
In Algonac, Blue ran a "Modified Gipsy Drive" with a XR Sportmaster lower. Black ran the "standard Gipsy" (IMCO extension, XR upper, IMCO lower.) Blue ran the new Throttle-Up 6-blade Hydromotive prop, whereas Black ran their 5 blade Hydro. Both run a HP525. The Sportmaster lower gave Blue better cornering capabilities at the price of a little top end speed, the 6-blade gave them better acceleration. And that was just the small edge they needed to trump Black. |
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
So where is the Klaatu report?
Sounds like a fun weekend. |
Re: The Algonac Pictorial

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
Klaatu, sorry I missed this one.
My next assignment is the APBA/SBI race in Sarasota on the 4th. I'll be following the female racers to tell the story from thier point of view. Looking for some great Bat Boat racing. So who's lining up to kick BatGirl's arse? I think she has a score to settle. |

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
As mentioned before several times, the Typhoon/Wild Card placement is wrong. Wild Card came in 3rd, Typhoon 4th.
|
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
Now that's a GREAT photo!!!!!
|
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
Apart from the slight inconsistency (Black Nutz is 4th, Blue is 3rtd ...) the results at http://www.silvercupseries.com/resul.../results_1.htm tell a very interesting story. Both Black & Blue show an average lap speed of 84 and change. Both our top speeds are 89 and change. Come try to beat that in a straight SVL race, girls.
|
Re: The Algonac Pictorial
That Fortress boat also averaged over 88mph. This means they were running well over 90mph in the straight aways. The silver cup still has no GPS or Radar gun to check speeds. The best Randy and I saw was 89 with the river current. Not *****in, just stateing the facts.
Had a great time racing with Candy and his new Typhoon. We had a great race with the Wild Card boys and just a good time in general. Thanks again for the invite Candy, and you too Bert. Learn how to drive an RV! |

Re: The Algonac Pictorial
The GLSCS will have the sealed GPS units this year. As stated at the Drivers Meeting, there was a component needed to complete assembly of the units that didn't ship as scheduled, thus delaying the delivery. They are supposed to be ready and shipping in the next week.

Mark
As you stated, no harm,no foul. Looking forward to racing you guys again this season. Candy and I will make it up to another race and try to beat you guys in my new boat. Best of luck and safe racing this year. B.J. Maher |
