Pictures from Benicia

Here is a link to pictures from Benicia. They are pretty good. Mike does work for Vapor Trails. On this site there are also pictures from the 2003 races in Oceanside and Pittsburg.

He was the only one that got a picture of us splashing the boat unside down, check it out.

I never thought I would see a Batboat go upside down. What happened?

Looks like it was a great day for racing in Benicia (love that town).

Re: Pictures from Benicia

Bruce,
What happened, we really have no idea... we were going fast then we were not, then we were hanging upside down (just like a bat) in a damp cave. Then we were in a coast guard boat being asked questions like, where you are? what day is it?

I think the bottom line is that we entered the corner very very hot, turned very very tight, and you see the outcome.

We have our bat rigged a little different, which provides more speed but less stability. I think the less stability part got us. We have the fast down, now we just need to get the finish down. This is a rough way to start the season (this was our first race out west).

Jim,
The strange part of this is that I feel more comfortable about racing now than ever. We have been dunked in a racing situation and made it out. The safety equipment worked.

To be honest, I think we will probably push harder now that it has happened as we no longer question the outcome. Boy I love racing!!!!

We are going to order a few of these, I really like the one of Flashwave passing an upside down boat!

Good luck in Hunnington, we will be re-wiring the dash that weekend.

Those wings really make it float nice and level while it's upside down.:)

Shane,
Are you saying the Extreme is in Cali? If that is correct are you going to Hunnington Beach?

Do you need a co-pilot?

We will be ready for Pittsburg.

There is plenty to do if you want to take a trip to Sac and turn some wrenchs.

Nice to see Howard's turbine boat out running.

Re: Pictures from Benicia

Real nice, he decided to leave the docks in Benicia (he was not racing) as we came around turn four about ready to get the green.

Basically running right next to the line-up against the F1 and P4 boats, causing the boat outside of us to come down on us and pinch us off on the start.

I was pretty thrilled to see him.

Don't forget, Arneson is 82 years young! Here's a couple of pics I took before the race:

Let's figure out what you need for graphics!!!

Are you thinking about bringing the boat over to have it installed?

George,
Nice pictures, do you have any of us on our back?

Don't get me wrong, Arneson is my hero! His timing just could have been a little better, but it is not like he was there for long! That boat flys, it is a shame he does not come out and race it as a PT boat for the crowd. What a thrill that would be.

Not to mention that anytime he wants a ride, there is a seat in P4-99 for him.

Rick,
No "action" pics of your boat in that uncomfortable position, I was on shore during the race looking at the western side of the course.
We were glad to see you guys and your boat after the race.
See you in Key West.
