Prayers go out to OB
Our prayers and thoughts go out to to Gary Nichols, Robin and everyone on the Gulf Coast awaiting Hurricane Ivan. Frances came and kicked our tail around a little bit here in Melbourne and I dont wish that on anyone. Good luck and be safe.

If Live Bait gets blown North, I hope it lands in my yard! Only kidding, Orange Beach is a beautiful place I hope it stays that way

To All Who Send Their Prayers:
To the best of my knowledge everyone involved with the GCPA has left the island. I work for OB Fire/Rescue and we will be the last to leave when the winds get upwards of 60+ mph. Gary and the crew took the boat so we'll see you in KEY WEST! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, b2bcapt Sam Jackson Safety/Medical Director Gulf Coast Power Boat Assn. |

It's good to hear everyone is gone. Please don't wait too long to get your ass out. I just sent something to the Red Cross. I really hope you won't need them. Be careful. SQ |

OB UPDATE 8pm CST
I'm still here in Orange Beach with 6 others with OBFR and 10 OBPD and the Public Works heavy equipment Div. We are bunkered in a secure (water/wind)structure, have generated power/fuel/food/ice making capabilities/and lots of water. The rest of the dept is in Foley with all of the remaining equipment. The winds are approx 60mph right now (make that 70mph-wish I had audio...) and the waves are approx 12-15 feet comming on shore. They are crashing over the pier near the start/finish line. EVERYONE is out of OB except a few civilians on the Eastern end of canal road and us. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers. sam SEE YOU IN KEY WEST!!!!! |

Re: Prayers go out to OB
OB definitely took a direct hit and Pensacola also got hit VERY hard. I have heard that the Persidio Hotel (APBA's host hotel for 2003 Worlds) has partially fallen into the Gulf... God be with all effected.

Re: Prayers go out to OB
This has been one hell of a year for destructive storms. Positive thoughts go out to all on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. As with the other two storms that have hit, there will be crews from all over the country there to lend their services and help pick up the pieces, as best they can. Truly, in the devastation of all these storms, we have seen what the true human spirit is here in the USA.
For everyone who has raced or been a spectator in Orange Beach, one can only imagine what has happened to all the waterfront condos, hotels, etc... there. It was only a month ago so many of us were there. Seeing the picture of that collapsed bridge in Pensacola was sickening. I've driven across that bridge MANY times. Sam, please keep us posted on the state of things there, and what any of us might be able to do to help. |

Re: Prayers go out to OB
OB Update: 9/16 12:30 am cst (we're still up from the last update)
1. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE KEEPING US IN YOUR PRAYERS. 2.. Folks we're safe and to date no injuries. 3. OB is a mess, and the Flora/Bama and Panama Mac's are gone. 4. Live Bait has damage, but will recover. We have Federal, State and surrounding area help coming into town as I type. Power companies, semi-truck sized generators, Red Cross were here this afternoon. Yes the system does work, it just takes time to get it going. Please keep the rest of the Gulf Coast in your prayers as well, Gulf Shores and the Florida Panhandle are a disaster too. I remember Frederick and this is worse. The pictures say it all, but we'll recover because we have a race to put on in August!!! See you in Key West. sam |
