Loss of long time race club
Below is a letter from the President of MOPRA / LSORA. The 30 year old race club from Michigan. I was asked to forward this on to everyone.
Regards, Andrew Bloom GLSCS Chairman MOPRA / LSCORA's board of directors met recently to discuss the future of the association. After much discussion, the board has voted to dissolve the club effective immediately. This was an extremely difficult, but ultimately necessary decision. The board, like many of you, has invested countless time and energy into making our club--and its events--among the best in Offshore. For over thirty years, our club has consistently produced at a level of excellence for which we can all be proud. In addition to local economic issues and dramatic changes among the sanctioning bodies we work with, the main factor that lead us to this decision is lack of 'new blood'. Since the mid-90's, there has been essentially no growth in membership and a dramatic drop in local volunteer and race team participation. Simply put, the burden of producing our events was being carried by increasingly fewer members and that trend could not be sustained indefinitely. The time and financial commitment necessary to operate the club and produce its events is truly staggering and for a very few to shoulder the responsibility has become unacceptable. While MOPRA / LSCORA will cease to operate locally, we will individually assist our friends in St. Clair, Algonac, Grand Haven and Ohio with their events in any way we can. Our club has a proud heritage due to the talent and diversity of its members. With this in mind, the board thought it appropriate to gather everyone together for a day of reminiscing, rekindling of old friendships and remembering those who we have lost over the years. We intend to have a large party in the late Spring for all past and present members...more detailed information will be sent out during the Winter. As we have gotten away from a paper newsletter, please forward this information to any past members we've lost touch with. Please contact myself or any of the board members should you have any questions or comments. I look forward to seeing you all next Spring. Dave Reitzel |
