Another Loss

The Offshore Family has lost another one of our past racers and co-founding father of the Great Lakes Silver Cup Series--Gary Stuewe. He passed away quietly on Nov. 16. Gary has a long history of racing (A-22 RumRunners) and who will ever forget the raw meat at the driver's meeting (or some of his other shenanigans the tour of New Orleans). Gary loved racing and everyone in it. He said it is in his blood. Please remember the good times and the next time you have a glass of Cabemat or a Coors Lite--just give him a toast. Thank you everyone for your support. You may call me if you wish. 630-681-9951 Ginny Morgan (Stuewe).

On behalf of the Great Lakes Silver Cup Series I would like to send our deepest condolence to Gary's family and friend. Gary played an instrumental part in Offshore Racing from APBA N.E. commissioner for several year to co-founding the GLSCS. He will be greatly missed.

Re: Another Loss

Ginny, I'm speechless!! I found out while I was in Key West. I ran into Shawn Smith with team "traffic light", we were catching up on old times when I asked about yourself, Gary and the rest of the "Rumrunner" team. He said they had just gotten the news a few days ago while at the Worlds. My condolences go out to you and the rest of his family and friends. He was so much FUN!! You guy's really took a couple of newbie's under your arms and helped us when I was racing with "Gordo". Some of my favorite memories while racing were with you and Gary!! Whether it was listening about the "Old Days" or tagging along for dinner (he always knew the good places to go!) I remember after one of our first races, it was in Erie, PA. we passed you guy's (we were racing in a different class) just before we entered the narrow channel. Then after the race, Mike said "ah dude, I think we probably cut them off, maybe we should have waited until we were in the harbor". Needless to say I was a little worried about cutting off one of the icon's of the sport. Then at the awards Gary came up to me, (I was terrified!!) He shook my hand a said "good racing!!" I explained how I was sorry if we cut you guy's off and he said "that's RACING!!!" he then took his Coors Light out of his coozie and said "I want you to have this, you earned it today" It reads "DO SOMETHING. LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT TO THE WAY!!!" I cherished that Coozie just as much as any of the trophy's I have from my racing days. That was back in 1998 and I just went upstairs and got that coozie out of my trophy case. Believe me, tonight I'll crack open a Cold Coors Light in that Coozie and have a Beer for Gary!!!

I thank God, for the chance to have met, be friends with, one of the true Veteran Offshore Racers, Gary Stuewe. God Speed Gary!!! Until we meet again at the Great Offshore Race in the SKY!!!

I think Brad has expressed my sentiments as well. I too have many great memories of Gary on the water, in the pits and at the parties. May he rest in peace at Gods speed.
My condolences to you Ginny and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
