End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
What do you do about the end of production on Merury Racing Outboards?? Is every one going to run the Verado? where does that leave SS Outboard Class, Better get em while you can!

Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
From what I understood full production of a 2.5 Offshore race motor may stop but it is not definite as it is considered a race engine and race engines do not necessarily apply to the EPA requirements as long as the are used for racing. Either way a manufacturer has to have the parts in circulations for 10yrs I think. Its not like there will not be any available next year or anything and as time comes along maybe a new four stroke race motor will be introduced. Again I am only going on hear say so do not take all of my info as 100%

Dennis,As always you are loaded with knowledge.I heard the same thing.

Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
Mercury plans on making a surplus of 2.5's until April. They will not be able to sell COMPLETE engines after April as I was told. Power heads and parts will still be available.

Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
how about going back to a 200,every manufacturer makes one, suzuki, honda ,yamaha.all do some major r n d in every other form of motorsports why not try to bring them in.they also sponsor pro fishing teams

Ryan,
I forgot who I heard it from but a few months back I heard of a High Performance Four Stroke that Mercury was testing. I was also told that it was not the Verado. Is there any truth to this? I figured you would know. 1HYPER1, Thanks for the compliment I think!! |
Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
dennis doesnt fountain use those motors for their production boats i am sure they will come up with something similar

Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
SNGLSTACK,
I know Fountain and many others have been using the Verado Four stroke on many of the center console fishing boats they build. I am not sure if Reggie has had any of the HP four strokes as of yet. From my knowledge there are no high performance four stroke outboards on the market as of yet but I am sure it is only a matter of time and I am sure Mercury must have something in the works if they plan to stop full production of the 2 stroke race motors in the future. |
Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
What EPA considered a "Race Engine" was one that is sold with a non-shiftable gear case.
Yes powerheads and parts will still be available. I hear at least for another 7 years. |
Re: End Of The Road For O/B Race Motors
My source tells me that Mercury is very aware of our class and it's power requirements. Their plan for us: Continue using the 2.5's for the foreseeable future. Nothing currently in their product line will do the trick and they do not expect a viable alternative for a minimum of 3-4 years (Verado, Four Stroke, etc.). If you need a whole motor tell Santa. If you want any portion of one, there is no great rush. Just remember they tend to run out of them (powerheads, gearcases) with some frequency. SQ
