Re: Volunteers Needed
You might want to post this in the General Discussion area, a lot of non racers don't look in here. If I was in FT Meyers I would love to help, but unfortunately we are stuck in the cold north. Good luck I be it will be a good race

Re: Volunteers Needed
Yes as Pete B states, the more volunteers the better. This is going to be a great event and for a great cause. Please if you're in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area and can help, please do. We are having Race Control meetings every other Tuesday at the Laugh-In Comedy Club in Ft. Myers, at the corner of College and Winkler Ave. The next meeting will be 03/29/05. We also need, turn boats and patrol boats too. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Volunteers Needed
In my opinion, one of the best, and most affordable sites in racing.
We used to rent the blue house right behind Hooters and directly on the boach for $175 per night. The people are great there and come out in droves to see the race. I agree with Ms Patriyacht Ben. Post it in the General section and you'll get a bigger response |
Re: Volunteers Needed
Thanks Scott and I did post it in the General area too. Have you got that number for the blue house?

Re: Volunteers Needed
I'll get it and send you a PM

It will certainly be a great race, in a great town. no cheap shots here just facts! First I agree, it is a great race site and I miss going there, but you use boat count, ok. I agree again that boat count is important, I was there the last 2 years of the Ft Myers race and the boat count left a little to be desired. To expand on what Shane asked about the difference, you have 30 something boats listed on your web site, which by the way some of those boats wont even see water ever again, but thats here nor there, What is the difference between approx 25 and 30 something????? I could understand if you said "we are bringing 50 to 70 boats" there is a difference, but please quit trying to make chicken salad out of chicken crap. Also when will you update your schedule? I thought you would only post race dates that are confirmed and under contract? Obviously Louisville didnt work out, what about Key West? I think it has been made quite obvious that you need 2 SBI/APBA/UIM races under your belt to qualify for KW so I am curious as to why you would promote that race on your website when your not even invited as an association? OSS could be such a great association if you would put a stop to the smoke and mirrors tactics and be honest, heck you might just attract more boats. Good luck to you this season and be safe Trent |
Re: Volunteers Needed
OK before this thread takes a turn, Let's think of the positve, We have a national power boat racing event in Fort Myers again! :D
Though I won't be a permant resident of Cape Coral till May 1st count me in. Let me know how I can help. Don (Not a racer just a race fan) |

As far as I'm concerned, you haven't been around long enough to have figured out who the "idiots" are yet. The politics of this forum, as unpopular as they may be, go back years. Stick around and learn some history before you start calling names - you'll have a little more credibility. If you are going to post negative posts and personal attacks in this forum, it would be nice to know who you are and what your affiliation to racing is. If your not somehow affiliated with a team, or association, or the like, you should keep your comments to yourself. They only stir up more controversy and GOD knows we dont need any more of that. |

Ben Hedrick For the record, I sold my race boat in January 2002. I have been working with two teams since, mainly assisting with sponsorship and marketing efforts. Depending on how this season goes, I may look at a boat for 2006. Lighten up........ |

This thread was also listed in General discussion as well, we want to have a great event . and if we can get some pics of some of the volunteers in their swimsuits you may want to volunteer as well. :drink: |

Re: Volunteers Needed
Why are you guys giving Pete B a hard time? He's trying to do the thankless job of recruiting some volunteers to keep the racers safe.
Because he added the word "real" you take offense? Get over it and pray that there's more people like Pete at each race site that will continue to build a group of unpaid, unthanked volunteers that are standing by to pluck your sorry asses out of the water in your time of need. You guys owe Pete and every race volunteer an apology for dumping on his thread. If you don't want to help him, keep your thoughts to yourself. |
Re: Volunteers Needed
Ron P,
AMEN... |
Re: Volunteers Needed
Sorry MM,
Not going to poof it, freedom of speech is something I enjoy as do most Americans including yourself I'm sure, I spent 22 years in the military defending it, and once again it was a volunteer thing. Whatever you stand for, stand by it, and promote it let your voice be heard, of course not everyone will share your opinion which is fine as well. As americans we have the choice to be opinionated. So are you intrested in volunteering, or are you just gracing us with your mere words of wit?? |
Re: Volunteers Needed
Another thread going down the crapper.......

Re: Volunteers Needed
Pete, see if you can reach out to the local poker run club for some help. As for the turn boats, you might need to take a walk down the dock on a weekend.
Been there, done it for many years, it ain't easy building a new volunteer base. Since I'm on a roll, I'll share this with you guys. We all know EXACTLY what is going on within offshore because we are so close to the source. Sponsors and fans aren't involved and don't follow things the way we do. All they know is what they see on the race course. And they've seen low boat counts and some unpaid bills once the race producers left town. It's going to take a year of two of producing excellent events to bring sponsors back to the sport. Behave, act professionally, respect and thank the race officials and volunteers and don't forget to tip the bartenders..... Ok, I'm done, I feel better now....... Have a safe and competitive season, regardless of where you choose to race. |
Re: Volunteers Needed
Hey Pete.
I for one would like to say thanks for taking the time. Where ya been hiding ? |
Re: Volunteers Needed
