Grand Lake Elevation Bill
The following is in the Tulsa World website. This would help keep the front portion of my dock from sitting on the ground on Labor Day Weekend. If you are in favor of it, let your State Senator know. I have read elsewhere that they think the current level changes also hurt the fish spawns in the spring.
Bill overriding Grand Lake federal regulation passes House By RANDY KREHBIEL World Staff Writer Published: 3/3/2010 1:37 PM Last Modified: 3/3/2010 1:37 PM OKLAHOMA CITY -- A bill attempting to override federal regulation of Grand Lake's water level passed the state House of Representatives with opposing debate from neighboring legislators. The bill by Rep. Doug Cox, R-Grove, mandates a lake elevation of 745 feet and negates a fall drawn-down needed to seed mud flats for water fowl habitat. The draw-down is required by the Grand River Dam Authority's federal license to operate the lake. Cox was opposed by Rep. Larry Glenn, D-Miami, whose district upstream from the lake has been subject to flooding. Many Miami-area residents blame the flooding on the GRDA, which it says already keeps the lake level too high. The bill, which passed 56-41, now goes to the Senate. I heard Cox was building a house up here somewhere. That should be all it takes! Let someone with the NEED and the POWER and all will be better.
