Bill sets maximum Lake Erie island speed limit at 35 mph News Herald reports Beginning in May, speed limits on Lake Erie islands will be limited for 35 miles per hour. The Ohio House of Representatives gave final approval to Sen. Randy Gardner's bill Tuesday and the 35-mile per hour speed limit will be in place 90 days after Gov. Bob Taft signs the bill. "This bill has always been about three things -- public safety, common sense and public support," Gardner said. Gardner, the Senate Majority Floor Leader, received support for the bill from Ottawa County Engineer David Brunkhorst, Put-in-Bay Township Trustees, EMS personnel, the Ohio Township Association and others. I believe that this refers to the speed limts ON the island and not to boats.
