Lake Michigan rougher than normal?

Is it me or has every weekend since July 1 Lake Mi. has been rough? 2'-3s' ok, 3'-4's a pain, 4'-5' not worth the pounding in 27ft boat. Definately no speed runs this year.

I was running 60 in a 280 Velocity this weekend, but then again it's the only time I've been in Lake Michigan as I was fulfilling the list of great lakes I've been in now 5 out of 5. I did notice that the waves between the break walls around Chicago were worse than the open water areas - all that boat traffic.

Yes the lake has been alot rougher then normal this summer. It sucks when you have warm weather but the wind is blowing 20+ MPH and you can't go out on the big lake. Been a wierd season with the weather.

Yup. Last weekend was beautiful though. Flat for 3 days!

Yes it has been a bad year. Last time we were able to get out was for venitian festival in St.joe. Even then the weather was terrible most of the weekend.

Was nice to finally have some good weather. I only have 18 hours on the boat this year. I think I am going to start planning times in other places like St.Clair and maybe Lake Cumberland. It sucks when you have a large body of water like Lake Michigan, and you can't use it.

Cumberland is very nice.

Went from Chicago to Door County this summer and it was BRUTAL. 8 footers most of the way with a strong East wind. The way back was great . When we started out on Green Bay, we thought it was going to be worse than the way up (if possible) but it was smooth. We made it back in just over 5 hours (about 340 nm) and had fun.

I keep my boat in Kenosha, and this is the first year in ten that I remember not being able to travel any of the weekends in July,

I do think this year held exceptionally poor boating conditions.
