just wondering??? RUNNING HOT...

Just wondering if anybody knows of a boat called RUNNING HOT that use to run years ago like back in the early 90's anyway. Just wondered if he was on this boad or not? I use to run challengers back then out of Grand Haven for the most part. The boat was about a 32' with extension boxes. The color was if I remember right white with some hot pink graphics. I also remember the boat having some pretty wicked engines. I was always impressed when I would see he had to get pulled out of the channel due to the noise. I was thinking he was from or around the South Haven area.

I think the boat is sitting with weeds growing thru it off the Cal Sag river. It was burned. One side is melted. I heard it was in a building that caught fire but dont quote me on that.

The pics above explain why I could never catch him. Somethings you never forget. Getting passed in a boat with no throttle left always leaves a lasting impression in my mind. Sometimes leads to sleepless nights... LOL....

it wouldn't make much difference, hmmm the "individual" who had the boat will more than likely recall the day i am talking about after losing a drive that day outside of Grand Haven. it was defenitely an uncomfortable moment. it was a case of having your hands full however couldn't do a dam thing about it. a good friend of mine was even hospitolized. just a couple of broken ribs though. if i recall running hot had he had a pretty good view of it...

Here's one from '93/'94 Thunder Marine Poker run. I don't think he ran in it. Those were fun poker runs while they lasted.

I remember Kenny Gordon heading those up. Fun days... That's a very nice looking boat. I really like the lines etc. Is there any kind of pad bottom or is it V all the way? It appears they are a pretty efficient hull.

The boat is stripped. Not sure how many years it has been sitting there. I am sure it is at the point now of rotting. It would cost a ton more to put together now I am sure than what it probably would cost for a late model one that runs. The problem with boats and fire is that they melt and warp from the heat. It will distort the whole side. With the right amount of money, time and experience anything can be done but it looks like it was not worthwhile to them.
I am not certain if I got the whole story straight about what happened. It just caught my attention when I saw it over the summer when I was driving down the river. I knew the original owner of the boat and saw it when it was being built. Only was in it one time for a ride. I think it was Thunder Boats at that time not Active Thunder.

getrdunn 01-27-2010 07:50 PM

Very nice looking especially for it's time. What was the year on the said boat? Also is it confirmed as Active Thunder or Thunder Boats? Just wondering in case I ever run across one for sale with or without power.

Here's a brochure with Runnin Hot . It was a Thunder Boat built by Bob Oetringer, before becoming Active Thunder. It was at the factory when I had a 24 built in 1990, just sold it in 2007 and bought a '99 32 Active Thunder.

I wonder if there is a used deck available or perhaps the one that caught fire? I am working on a 32 (31.6) spectra that I am going to be doing some major deck mods to this boat however before I start it might be worth persuing another deck all together. That would be a job itself though provided one could retro fit it.

I was there when Bob Harris (the original owner) had the 32' AT "Runnin' Hot" built back in 1989-1990. I rode in that boat several times because he brought it to St. Joseph, Michigan a lot back in the day. It wasn't really built for racing although Bob raced it a few times in South Haven---they actually had a very small offshore boat race there for a few years. I don't know of any times he may have raced the boat in Florida---maybe he did a few times, but I that was a long time ago and I do not recall.

Dan C. owned the other yellow 1990 32' AT called "NO LIMIT"---which is the boat that I now own (since 2001). I rode in that boat a few times as well when Dan owned it. It was oringinally rigged with TRS drives---but from the time I bought it I have re-rigged the boat with Bravo One drives.

FYI, my boat (32' AT) w/tri-axle trailer is now FOR SALE. I pulled my engines out, removed the extension boxes and -2 IMCO shorties and I just had a new pair of very mildly built 482cid engines (dyno'd at 509hp/561tq) built for it by Dave Wesseldyk of WESCO Racing Engines in Jenison, Michigan,...........but I can sell it with or without engines.

I have some photos and more details about my boat in the Active Thunder section...do a search.

I didn't see any 1990 AT's listed?

Yes, you are correct---I haven't really officially listed the boat so to speak because I was trying to get the new engines built for it....between building the new engines, selling other stuff, and running 2 divisions within my company it's like doing a juggling act......but now the engines are built, dyno'd and ready for install. At least it's one less thing I have to do.

I am willing to show the boat to anyone who is interested. For those who are interested in buying, I guess it just depends on how they want to buy it---i.e. with or without engines, or with engines but not installed or...??? Mark
