St. Joe Poker Run?

Hey everyone. I am looking for a little help throwing together a poker run out of St. Joe Michigan in the memory of my passing father. He could build a boat motor like no other and had a love for boating for many years. He had always talked about throwing one together and he realy wanted to make it happen this year. I would like to see this goal of my dads though. I have one problem though, I have no idea on how to get one started. I am looking for some answers and anyone that would be interested in helping.

Gonna take alot of work and help. Might be better off holding a fun run, as the insurance will be much less to deal with.

Was your father Wolfie?

Yeah that was my dad I am his youngest son and realy a fun run was all I was looking for I just want to get some people together and run. Because I know many people that run in lake Michigan either knew who my dad was or knew him personaly. But do you know of anyone that could realy help me out and I dont know about the whole liability factor because I dont want something to happen like up in Grand Haven.

Well I would say that all you really need to do is put something together. Does not have to be fancy. Just get a bunch of boats together and run. Maybe have a pig roast or something after.

Maybe you could get in touch with Carl to use the area by the slip for the War Hawk. If you get a whole group to stay at Pier33 I am sure it would not be to hard to do.

Just keep it simple and cheap. If it is less than $100 per boat to join in, get a slip, and have dinner people of all levels will be able to participate.

There are lots of sites that you can advertise on. Plus all the local marinas. If you can get something put together people will come. Just check all the other dates for other runs.

I forgot to mention would there be anyone interested in running in this fun run and if you would I would appreciate passing the word on.

What dates and what kind of water you looking at? I assume you go out to Lake MI? Never boated in that area. There are a lot of organized events this summer in MI that will attract the bigger boats, so you would have to choose your date accordingly. I agree though, keep it simple and cheap.

That is the plan to keep it cheap and easy just a good time. I just want to get some guys together to run and have fun because thats all my dad was looking for. I am looking at some dates and keeping the other runs in mind but I am looking to have the run in the St. Joe area were my dad would do most of his running.

Your dad worked on my truck when I was younger and on my boat. I was really sorry to hear he passed. I would love to participate in a fun run. There are a couple dates you want to stay away from. There is a poker run in Traverse City on July 17th that a lot of people are going to so that probably wouldn't be the best. Plus thats venetian weekend. The SBI race is in Michigan City on august 5-8, probably want to stay away from that. There is also Hot Boat weekend at Hardy Dam, I'm not sure when that is but its more towards the end of the year i think.

I will help out with word of mouth best I can. Sites like this are definitly a good way to get word out. There are quite a few local guys that I know would be interested in doing something for sure. Once you pick a date it will be easy to get people together.

Kris

"if you can't race it or take it to bed it ain't worth havin". My wife hates it when I wear that t-shirt

Not familiar with the area, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but are you going to be on a river or a lake or what? Would a 38' boat be too big for the area? Also, Jobbienooner is June 25-26. BoyneThunder is July 9-10. Depending on who you are trying to attract.
