Weekend on Saginaw Bay

I uploaded these in the Formula section and couple weeks ago but figured I'd throw them on here as well. We normally boat up north where we live, Torch, Burt, Mullet, but I brought the boat down for the weekend to take some friends out.

We went out for a few hours on Saturday. Left from Vet's park in Bay City and out to the bay. We ended up picking up some friends at Cast-away's and hung out at the sand bar at the state park. We had a bunch of friend's and kids so we moved in a little shallower then everyone else. Of course made the mandatory stop at Hooter's for a beer before loading up in the rain!

Those are my home waters, but I was running in Cleveland over the weekend. Can be fun at State Park depending on the crowd. I dont normally put in at Vets unless there is something going on in town 'cause of the long no-wake ride to the Bay. If they would just open the river back up except for the marina frontage downtown would have a lot more action and bring in a lot more boats.

If you stay in the shipping channel in the river you will be fine.

Just be sure when you are outbound or inbound at the Saginaw river mouth to stay in the channel at least a mile out before heading north.

Amen brother.

I've come in from Caseville a few times and the no-idle zone (to Hooters, of course) is a good hour each direction. IIRC, the short section between the Independence (Harry Truman) Bridge and the marina next to the train bridge did NOT have no-wake restrictions. This helped dull the pain a little, but not enough. Is this section of the river still like this?

Also, are there any wake restrictions further upriver once you get past downtown Bay City? Since it is a shipping channel, I've always played with the idea of "prop testing" further up river on windy days.

There is a short stretch between Vets bridge and Skipper Buds to run, then no wake to the end of the middle grounds. from the end of the middle grounds to Saginaw you can run again.

I should be out. I have a slip at liberty for the 10 days between river roar and the 4th. I'm not keeping it in the water all that time (i like the white gel coat) but now I have parking for the concert friday. Parking is such a pain down there.

I can't wait to hear the stories about the dockside. I haven't been there in a while cuz the service and food sucks. I don't go to hooters for the same reason. Can u imagine the business that could be had down there if the food and service were both good?

I may have a solution for that in the future, have a deal cookin. If it looked like I could make it work I may open a place on the water, nothing concrete right now but an option and some ideas kickin around. Think a classy place on the water with good food, service, and atmosphere could make it? I will prob. be out for the concert on Friday, will look for you.
