I would go to Milwaukee. Then head south down to Racine, or Chicago it you want to burn some fuel. Plenty of water to run and plenty of people on the site to party with along the way.:grinsero010: You really need to cruise the Chicago River and waterfront though, It's spectacuar

i live in the milwaukee area, thinking of coming down for the air show in Aug. What will access of the river be like. Do i have to go through a lock? If so i can imagine that will be crazy.

Yes there is a lock, it is pretty big and easy to use. The water level only drops about 4 feet . It is located just south of Navy Pier. There is always plenty of traffic on the river with all the tour boats, but not a problem at all. I think it is a little wider than the Milwaukee River downtown.
