Torch Lake

Heading to Torch Lake again this weekend, supposed to be great weather... hope to see you out there

onesickpantera 06-23-2011 03:25 PM

Have you seen the water patrol checking exhaust noise levels this year? I heard they were checking last weekend.

AJ POWERPLAY 06-23-2011 04:23 PM

yes they have been, the local sheriff came up to me while i was unloading at the marina and said they would be out checking noise levels. toss the mufflers on for the check so you get your pass slip then throw the straight pipes back on!! lol

300 beans. That's kinda pricey.....

THE 288 KID 06-26-2011 05:31 PM

Talked to a guy last year up there that got a noise ticket and I don't think it was 300$, I wanna say 100-150ish?

Well that sucks! I have been going to Torch for years and I have never even been looked at twice. I ordered some slip-in mufflers but I don't know if they are going to make me legal.

Guys, the water patrol is pretty decent as long as your not bringing to much attention to yourself. If they see you doing what you can to mitigate your noise level. ie: idling on one engine in the river, not throttling up in front of the sand bar or near other boats. and just using common sense they will most likely look the other way. IMO, they will be way to busy to mess with db. levels. Hopefully its hot and sunny, its long overdue! Have a great weekend and 4th! PM

I hope you're right! That's the way it's always been up there.

But a friend was stopped a couple weeks ago when he was idling out of Clam Lake and they said they were checking people with thru hull exhaust. He said they were really cool about it and he passed at 89.1 db. I'm WAY louder than he is! LOL I'm guessing that homeowner's on the lake have been complaining.

You going to be around this weekend?

Perfectmix 06-30-2011 03:22 PM

Look for the Formula 31PC, I had to change boat venues this year. We keep it at the Luhrs Landing on the river. They checked me once in my Avenger, The lake was really slow and they were just curious about the boat. It was slightly over but they didnt really seem to mind. This was 3 years ago. Have a good time out there.

I had the cops waiting for me at the start of torch river last forth, they told me they had three calls about my boat coming up the river db test was 111 they gave me the ticket told me i could run all weekend just show ticket if i get pulled over and it was a get out of jail card. I broke a rocker arm stud the next day in grand traverse bay so I didnt get to test it out but nobody else in our group had a problem. and its just a fix it ticket no fines if you take care of it. see you at the sand bar

HIGH PRESSURE 08-09-2011 06:49 PM

Anyone going to Torch Lake this weekend?

JohnAT 08-09-2011 09:31 PM

Nope,my boats too loud.

Irishtornado 08-09-2011 10:07 PM

I don't think they have a db level at Torch John

JRider 08-09-2011 10:09 PM

I will be there in the poker run. 28 profile cat. Should be out on the bar fri, and sun for sure. Poker runners usually break off east of the sand bar for more of an adult party.

I stand corrected. Hell 11db my stereo would get me a ticket then along with my exhaust.

TDSTYG 08-10-2011 01:17 PM

i was just there all weekend and saw many water patrol and sherrifs. i have twin 496 ho with cmi headers no mufflers load as he!!. no body even looked at me. i had the loadest boat there that i saw.

first time there awesome lake and a great time

jriggs 08-10-2011 01:48 PM

Is there a spot to launch a big boat? I am going to be over Traverse City staying at the marina all weekend (8/11-8/14). Was thinking about heading over there on day if there is a good place to launch.

catman01 08-10-2011 09:49 PM

Yes the poker run is this weekend and yes there is a launch a luhrs landing that will accommodate large boats.

HIGH PRESSURE 08-10-2011 09:57 PM

I will be there sat in a all white cig.

TC G 08-11-2011 02:48 PM

I've never heard of a Torch Lake Poker Run? Is it kept pretty quiet? What are the details?

JRider 08-11-2011 10:54 PM

Not a big money poker run. I think it is only $200 a hand and all the proceeds go to the torch lake fireworks display for the 4th. If you have a fast tri-toon you can run in it...there will be a few there as well as cruisers. A damn good time on a beautiful lake.
