Higgins Lake Water Patrol

Anyone know how the "law" is at Higgins lately? I went there about 5 years ago and got a ticket and the cop was unfriendly to say the least. I used to go there 9-10 years ago and never had any issues but this guy has made me stay away. He was an older guy so I am hoping he retired, or got pulled from water patrol for being a Richard Cranium. LOL

It is fine there for the most part. There is a speed limit on all MI inland lakes of 55 but I have not seen them with a radar. They are mainly out in front of the two state parks so if you keep your distance from them when going fast you should have no issues. I did get stopped 3 times in one summer for noise but never a ticket...again, I dont think they have the ability to test on the water. It really is just common sense, keep distance from other boaters and areas where they are anchored amd avoid going fast thru the narrow area where the southern and northern part of the lake meet. I have a cottage there and am there most every weekend.

I think if you keep it low key you will be ok. Last time I was up there they shadowed me for a while like they were looking for a reason. Didnt give them one I guess cause they didnt pull me over.

My buddy shreads 90 across there all the time no issues. There pretty damn decent on higgins id have to say compared to torch.

We should pick a weekend and do a higgins meet up. I got a cabin aswell on the north end.

I'm in for sure. Where do you plan on launching your new beast, I know some bigger boats have been on Higgins but arent most of the ramps a bit short?

I have launched at south state park. Gotta get there early though or I cant get the traler parked

Thats where I launch, I can get in and out fine but I thought anything much bigger would be a bit of a trick.

My cabin is right by northshore state park but I had enough issues there with my Sunsation. Short dock, shallow water, small parking area that my new boat/trailer is out of the question. The west side dnr launch is decent and has lots of parking but a tight area to back the boat in. wolgast uses this ramp exclusively to my knowledge for his sunny 32 and I think they're even gonna launch their new F4 there. South shore is the best in my opinion. Although as Pete sed getting there early is key with bigger trailers.

Friend of mine has a place right by the west side DNR launch, looks ok the parking isnt the best for long trailers. Just my thoughts by having looked at it, never tried to launch there.

Sometimes the longer trailers park along the road. It's a tighter area to get backed down in the ramp if there's a bunch of rookie boaters in your way that can't back a trailer up worth a ****... The most annoying part is if there's a dnr attendant "directing" things. They get annoying cause they don't understand us bigger boat guys have a routine and not to try and give us pointers LOL.
