Haven't looked into this at ALL, it may be a joke, but here is a poker run June 23rd http://www.marinetechconcepts.com/po...n-fremont.html ..... I am not sure if Marine Tech will do one of their own this year or not, I know they have in the past. Catawba Moorings is great, music to my ears to hear you docked there. I know that Put-In-bay is always festive on the 4th, Fireworks in between South Bass, and Middle Bass, is incredible, you can hear the fireworks eco through the trees. I will look into what is happening, since I am on West Harbor I will see what info I can get for you. I am not sure if you know, but if you go through the Sandusky Bay (be careful 4 feet deep in there) and cut into the Sandusky River (That is dredged deep enough for a freighter) there is a restaurant way down the river, I forget what its called, but maybe worth looking into, there is a ramp in the river if you aren't comfortable in the bay. my neighbor was telling me about it, we were going to take 2 or 3 boats down there but the season go too cold for us to go through with out plans. Catawba Place by Gem Beach has a Golf Cart parade and LOTS of booze right after on July 4th, could always pull your boat in there to the docks.

Just saw flier.... looks like it isn't our type of poker run. :lolhit:

oh6662b, I assume you are referring to Pelee Island and not Point Pelee on the main land? If so, I spent more time, money and broke more parts getting there/back than anywhere else combined. Loved it there.
We'd hit the beach at Fish point Friday night, dinghy in, bon fire = cook on the beach, Saturday all day on beach/sun, Saturday afternoon to either Scudder or Wes Marina (whoever had docks), walk to Scudder Beach Bar, stagger back to boat for nap, then ride bikes to the Anchor and Wheel Inn for their famous "Big Island Buffet". All you could eat walleye (Canucks call it pickerel), prime rib or chicken and it was always killer! Stop at Scudder bar on way back to boat or to Westview on far side of island to party w/the locals. Sunday back to beach for the day. We watched the Indy 500 on a battery powered TV on the beach at Fish Point one yr ; ) Pelee is one of my favorite places on earth and have many, many great stories from there. From chasing naked women around the boat in the moon light to drunken bicycle rides in the dark on their gravel roads w/their 30' deep irrigation ditches filled w/water to giant bon fires on the beach. The ashes of one my labs are spread on that point and I will be bringing home another one to do the same on this trip. Bigboat, Rocky and the crew are the best. Loved that place. Saw him down here at the Miami show a couple yrs ago. I bought my first Marinette off of Mike when he was still there. He laughed when my buddy and I showed up for the sea trial carrying a cooler of beer. He said that was a first. On Sandusky Bay, learned to ski behind Cedar Point causeway and me and my bud's spent every summer terrorizing the bay. One of the them owned Vactionland Marina right next door to Venition. When I docked at Bay Point we spent a lot of time on their beach. We watched a 55' Sea Ray drive up on the beach right beside us after cutting too close to the point. Which is marked on the charts btw ; ) |
In Columbus
I live in Columbus, and just drove to my Job in poring rain and gloomy skys... As you know - this happens most of the summer as well.
All I can think is, Why do you want to go through all that to come for Mediocre (at Best) totally unpredictable weather? I appreciate your vigor for the buckeye state though!! |
Yea yea yea... I hear ya Gary... talk is cheap.
You know I'm in:) Just get a date and stick w/it and let me know. I think last year I was staying at your place right now winterizing for the dreaded tow north. Thanks again for that! I gather from your post your ol dog has moved on. Sorry for that. My ol Abby is still hanging in there at 15+ (big reason we didn't come south this year) |
Oh ye of little faith....

Our local paper lists your weather every day. 58 and rain today and 65 and partly cloudy tomorrow. If I still lived there here is what that would tell me: 1. Way better than 25* and sleet. 2. 58* is water skiing weather, let alone 65 :helmet: 3. 65* in mid January means I have less of the real winter to keep from jumping off a tall building. 4. 65* in mid January also means there is less time for it to be truly cold and freeze the big lake up north. 5. Based on above that means (fingers crossed) Spring will come sooner and water will warm sooner (allowing wading into the beach at Pelee) and MAYBBBBEEEEEE, a nice long summer  6. Being an outboard guy (meaning no frozen engine blocks) that means theres a fair chance I would be bar hopping at Buckeye Lake tomorrow, by boat :thankyouthankyou: Huge fun for any that have not partaken. 7. If you told me I would be considering this trip after turning our lives upside down to move down here.....I'd probably punch you :angry-smiley-038: In all honesty...., some times you have to get away to see how nice you really have it. We have done many, many boating trips down here that were huge fun but........, still have not matched those few "perfect" weekends at the big lake. Even at Buckeye Lake, when it's nice, you do not know you're at Buckeye Lake. At the big lake......., when the boat runs right, you have the right companion along, the weather is perfect, the lake is nice........, I haven't seen any better down here. Yet. That being said, one of the riskiest parts of this trip will be weather. Mark, yep. Put him down 3 mnths ago. The only good is that his down turn was sudden and quick. Fit as a fiddle to 14 1/2 and then his body let us both know that it was used up. If this trip happens, he will be coming with us and staying there w/his step brother on their favorite beach. http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...ing3-09021.jpg Long ways away from pulling the trigger but as you know, we've been talking about it for a couple of yrs. I'm still serious about having/leaving a 2nd cuddy there for us to fly in and use as well. If the planets align here's what I know to be on my "A' list w/the boat. A trip to Pelee for a few days and if the lakes' nice...., a banzai trip the rest of the way across (15 mls) to leamington Ontario would also happen. Nicest marina in at least Lake Erie if not all the Great Lakes if you haven't been. They have shuttles there to take you to the park at Point Pelee or into town if you're into it and also rent bicycles. Both great times. The perfect ending to that trip would be a night at the Casino. Knowing you can see the park where your trailer is after a trip like that is kinda nice ;) Fuel tank would also be on fumes. |
Bigboater are you talking about the tacklebox in fremont

You forget we (ohioans) are in the throws of our deep winter depression! Im kidding with all this of course. I boat at Buckeye lake exclusively, and enjoy it very much. Except for water levels being down and sucking up some mud, it was a fun season last year. OSU vs. Michigan Mens hoops, sunday - in case you forgot about that whole deal in your absence. |
