thanks guys, let people know. I have no financial aspirations of this page. Just would like to get a few hundred people that we can get live updates and such.

wild_wabbit 02-12-2013 10:26 AM

Would be good to have a few people from around the area to do some events in summer Dont know how many you get going to your events but will keep a look out. Dont know if i would be fast enough to keep up to u folks on the water though.

Agreed, the 1000 Islands Poker run is cool, but, you need some SERIOUS hardware to run with those boys. I hear the Alex Bay run is a little more low key. I am on Wolfe Island if anyone local wants to say "Hi"

Nice to meet you Don, and Welcome!

I am on the 16th line, South shore of Wolfe Island, in a piace called "Murray Bay". Pretty much dead across from the Eastern tip of Carlton Island.

I live in Oshawa, but, spend pretty much my entire summer on the Island. I usually just rip around between Cape Vincent and Clayton on the US side, or cruise over to Kingston for dinner, and hit the beach on Grindstone Island from time to time.

I dont want to hijack this thread, so, give me a PM if you like, be nice to hear from you, or any other guys who boat down that way.

There is a fellow who I think is out of Gan with a Baja similair to ours, goes by "River Monkey" on here, damn nice guy, maybe you guys know each other?

Michael

ya :D Thanks!

my friend took that at his dock in lake of the isles last august, using a smart phone and instagram...pretty slick. I had a hatch up so I had to do a little photo shop, I am not good at photo shop but it was good enough for an avatar and credit card pic!

I think 'motor-sailor' is an oxymoron...like a blow boater who's not quite sure if he's gay or not!

Not a fan of the blow boats!!! Cheap snobby bastards!!!

'Liked' the 1000's Island page...spent lots of time in Alex Bay and will plan a trip back at some point.

LOL, I guess you can't tar them all with the same brush, no doubt there are sail boaters out there who have plenty of horror stories about power boaters, some probably true.

BUT, I gotta say the one thing that annoys me about blow boaters (apart from the "Holier than thou attitude) is the fact they don't wave!

2 years ago, wifey and I are anchored at the mouth of our bay, swimming, listening to tunes and enjoying the day. In the distance I see this blow boat, about 18 feet long, about 125 years OLD coming up river (tacking) Now, technically I was anchored in a bay and could have stayed put, instead I decided to be the "polite fellow boater" and haul up the hook and move a couple hundred feet inland to give "Judge Scmalls" room to tack. The arrogant POS sails RIGHT PAST us, maybe 50 feet away, NEVER looks, never waves, doesn't even give a friendly nod.

My wife, who generally wouldn't say crap if she had a mouth full of it, yelled: "YOUR WELCOME A-HOLE!"

About 2 hours later a giant Sunseeker cruised by, no idea how big? But, my boat probably would have fit in the main staterooms closet! Not only did EVERYONE on the flybridge (all 50 of them, lol) wave, but they even came off plane not to swamp us.

Just goes to show, there are good AND bad everywhere

Ps: don't get me started about Jet Ski's!! LOL

Need4SpeedGTCS 02-25-2013 11:30 AM

Yes, there are good and bad, and don't mean to paint them all with the same brush; just my experiences with blow boaters have been mostly bad. Your story sounds typical! LOL!

soldier4402 02-25-2013 02:01 PM

crusiers on the saint lawrence are the ones that upset me the most.

It is funny. I was out in the fishing boat one day and it was GLASS not any wind what-so-ever, just one of those super hot calm days. Anyway big group of sail boats came out of Brockville and I kid you not we were drifting right at the same pace as they were going with the sails up. Was calm enough that even talking to ourselves in the boat our voices carried. I looked at the rest of the guys with me and just said "are you kidding me". The crew in the closest sailboat immediately looked at us burst out laughing. We made some cracks about the wind they asked about the fishing and made some cracks but all in all seemed like a good bunch of people. Saw them later that day and wind was up about 5mph and they came close to the house and waived. Now if I was idling in my other boat would they have been so nice...like to think so but who knows. I definately get a lot more glares than thumbs up with thru-hull

n20michael 02-26-2013 01:49 PM

I gotta be honest, I have never really had any problems with the "cruiser" guys, some of them are a little pompous, but, for the most part they are good guys. Sailboaters are kinda like the guy who drives a hybrid car and figures he is single handly saving the entire planet.

Having said that, I do have about a dozen or so friends who "live aboard" on Sailboats and I have actually gone out in a regatta with them, not a bad group of guys. I guess I am just a bit of a control freak and like to be able to control where I go, and how fast as opposed to relying on wind. I have to admit I DO find the whole "navigating" part of sailing kinda cool, the reading of the wind, weather, that kind of stuff is pretty interesting, but, I still wouldn't own one, LOL

I have said it in other posts, I dont care if you have a 50ft Outerlimits, or a paddleboat, its STILL better than being on shore [-:

"Poster Child" I hear ya! A few years ago the Bay our cottage is on had a huge July 1st/4th party, I showed up and met some of the neighbours and friends, hit it off with all of them, a few hours later one of the guys I was chatting with asked how the boat was running? I said "Great" we where out today" Another fellow [who was quite friendly up until that point] said to me "Oh, thats YOUR boat?" and after that barely said a word to me. Sad how some people think, eh?

soldier4402 02-26-2013 02:18 PM

its not so much the guys themselves as when parked are usually good guys its the fact that they feel as if they throw up 6ft wake dont matter where, drive down the center of the river, and figure they always have the right away. Which larger boats usually have the right away and sail boats trump that while tacking, but really most cruisers on the river are between 24-30ft and yes they look tall and big, but are no longer than anything else out there.

cuposterchild 02-26-2013 03:39 PM

My Neighbor a few doors down HATED it when I had my 24 Superboat. Probably isn't thrilled with any of my boats for that matter. Boat was pretty loud for what it was but the guy threatend my neighbors (they are in their upper 70's btw) that he was going to call the cops, the coast gaurd etc for being too close to shore (I cannot even get without 1000ft of his place based on us being on a point) etc. Tried going up to him to introduce myself a bunch of time and he just walked away would never even say hi. Best part is he said the noise and speed bothered him but he was a corporate jet pilot before he retired! I have great neighbors on either side for a few places down so it helps keep them at bay.
