Put in Bay
Anyone have any info on a good place to dock, etc in Put in Bay? Looking to take a trip over the week of July 4, 2014. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

The public docks require rafting. If you can make a reservation at the Boardwalk you will get a slip for the same fee. If they have anything available. They also have a store, restaurant, gas dock, air conditioned showers and bathrooms and wi-fi, all right there on the docks! There is a new marina that I don't know anything about. Go to their web site and there is a ton of info.

Lots of good info in this section, I'll dig up some threads.
We won't be there the 4th, but are usually there any other weekend. We typically stay on 'B' dock, but everyone has their preference. |

This little blast of snow made me miss the old island....and really everything about summer
|
Just got back in town from a weekend at PIB. We were marooned over there on Sunday, too much wind and too much ice. Miller's had to salt down the ferry and ramp so they could load vehicles to get back to the mainland. Tippers Bar had a blow out sale $1 for any beer bottled or draft all weekend! Made the day more tolerable that way. There are construction crews tearing up the docks for all new docks in 2014. Looks like A and C dock, but not real sure the exact info as they are just starting work. That island is definitely different when the cold settles in and man does it make you wish for the sunny days. There was plenty of space at the remaining docks though!

I was told C dock our adding 2 finger docks west off of there main dock, pretty far out from what B dock was saying. Going to be extremely congested on busy weekends, better radio in with those 38 footers. A dock I believe is just resurfacing them, I think.
If you want something more quiet there's always middle bass island, no rafting and there's the sonny s that can take you to the bay. But for the ultimate experience stay on B dock, the rafting off is not as bad as people make it sound. |
If you want to be with all the action get on B dock as Mag stated. Twice last year we reserved a dock at Middle Bass and took the shuttle over to PIB. There is power and water on the individual slips at Middle Bass too. Every time we tried at PIB the docks were full last year, ended up on mooring balls which really isn't bad if your not staying on your boat. The experience is great and the people watching is priceless, worth the trip no matter where you end up docking.

Thanks for all the info guys. We are looking forward to going, but I doubt we will stay on the boat. Mine is a 1998 22 Scarab and my buddy has a 23 foot open bow Crown Line. Any hotels with dock space?

Be sure to heed that advice about looking out for fishing nets in the first post RT listed...
First time on Erie, we ran from Toledo to Detroit an back one day. On the return I noticed some red painted bleach bottles bobbing off to my right, then 30 seconds later we snagged a piece of steel cable running 50mph. Don't know what that fisherman had invested in his nets, but it cost me a brand new $750 prop I had just mounted up that morning... Talk about pissed off, good thing I wasn't pack'n or they'd been fishing for their nets all summer. :waffen093: http://www.altfuelsgroup.org/picture...ing-edge-2.jpg |

Not that I know of. To get an idea of the docking facilities check out put in bay.com and search the Ohio State Parks for info on Middle Bass marina. There is a State Park Marina on PIB but I do not know about overnight in their slips. Google Earth shows the islands in detail, this will really answer a lot of your questions about where the docks are in comparison to the attractions. The accommodations are not like checking into the Hyatt, very laid back. Bike rental or golf cart rentals are smart for island adventuring. PM me if you need more specifics.

Heres a couple pics that might help. We usally launch out of Muzuriks public launch, thats where the L is in Lakeside on map. We always go to C dock just because thats where alot of friends go, also dock guys/women are more friendly. I had and heard bad experience's with B dock guys, mainly one. Wonder if C dock is going to steal away any busy B dock business.

By the time you hit every bar and winery you will not care where you sleep. So a staying on a small boat may not be a big issue.

so moral of the sorry is if u cant fine your boat or if its not big enough to sleep on there will be other boats for u to pic from :lolhit:

Someone needs to start, in the Great Lakes section, a winter blues thread where all that's posted is boating pics and vids. And I mean anything just something to look forward to til spring hits. RT and I was up at PIB for Halloween and yes weather was cold and water was crazy but we were there for there last weekend. I told him lets be there for opening so that we can make this the shortest winter possible, believe its back open around April 12th.
