Detroit River Awesomeness

Guys i had to join because today has been the best day down at the Detroit River since the Red Bull runs. By fluke I heard the sound of the motors and man was it ever a great event. Luckily living in the area i do get to see alot of these off shore boats but never get to see them running nose to nose, balls out in the choppy Detroit River.

I hope this becomes a regular thing, it attracted so many people on Windsor's river front. For those of you who provided this entertainment, thanks so much what a way to start ending the summer.

Cheers.

I was stuck in the bayou, or I would have been there. Plans to do it next year? Would love to boat up there, maybe with some members? (If my float ever sees water......)

from what i know they're trying to make this a regular event. I sure hope so because there's alot of potential for a great new race location!

They are and they are working on some big backing as well. I was told, this morning, they are already planning next years event. It sounds like it will be earlier in the season if/when next years event rolls around. While we had great weather this weekend, all of us know (from MI) after Labor Day, there is no telling what the weather will be like.

What event was last weekend?

The Detroit International Powerboat Championships on the Detroit River in front of Detroit and Windsor. Was not really advertised as OPA had put it together in about 5 weeks. It was in the General Boating Discussion for a number of weeks, the Great-Lakes-Canada Forum, Facebook and the OPA Forum on here. Many people didn't hear about it but there were quit a few spectators there in both Countries to watch the race. Spectator viewing of this race course is extremely good and it was a good weekend if you don't count the big rain storm Friday night that made the Pits a little muddy. I hope that you can make it next year and I think that if it returns it will be bigger and better than this year. Had a real good time watching all the battle on the water and the venue itself.

The Detroit race was one of the best I've seen, I took over 800 photos myself. I work for Bosch and I am talking to our corporate group to see if they will provide some level of sponsorship next year. I'm also trying to get my daughter to help with marketing these events, she does a lot of marketing for a large financial company and has a lot of contacts that would really get the word out. I hope this is an annual event.

It's great to hear about your great experience at the Motor City race, and that you would like to try and do something to promote this race in the D. With all the positives I have heard it is quite possible that this race will be back and I am very happy about that.
