What to do by Chicago?
 

Can anyone recommend things for a family (wife, 14 and 12 year) to do by Chicago in July? We are thinking of taking a vacation(not bringing my boat) by Chicago and just wondering what the locals recommend.

What are you looking to do? There are museums ,shopping ,tons of great food ,beaches ,sports events all depends on what you're looking to do with your time

We are definitely going to do Six Flags. We are interested in outdoor destinations like the beach, water sports, food, sites to see. Something my kids won't get bored with lol.

They also have a pretty sweet Aquarium.

Hopefully not get shot......

Six Flags is a good hour drive north of the city...so take that into account. If you are staying downtown, Navy Pier is the most popular tourist destination in the city, take a shoreline sightseeing boat ride (the Sea Dog is the "go-fast" option). Right there along the lakefront, you have the Museum Campus....Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium. Maggie Daley Park is brand new, featuring rock climbing walls that just opened. If you want to catch a game, you have the Sox on the south side and the Cubs on the north side...tickets should be pretty easy to come by...almost ALWAYS available at Sox games. Go up to the observation deck in either the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower or the John Hancock building. On the water, you can do kayak tours of the Chicago River, or rent a bike and ride the lakefront path along the beaches.

Oh...and get yourself a deep dish pizza. Giordano's is one of my favorites.

I will be staying a day or 2 by Six Flags. My kids and I are roller coaster junkies LOL.

Is this a reference to Six Flags?

if you stay by six flags, you can drive about 12 miles west and take the blarney queen (shuttle boat) and go have lunch or a beer at blarneys Island,, that is in the chain o lakes ,,plenty of other water front restaurant,bars,.state park,

or from six flags you can drive north about 30 minutes and go to Milwaukee ,,plenty of nice water front restaurants,breweries,,
