trent severn

Awesome boating , beautiful scenery from Georgian bay to lake ontario.

I would love to plan a trip and do it. Before I was born my pops ran a week up there in a checkmate style boat. This was back in the early 70s. I remember him talking about visiting Bob Caygon. He said being up there was the first time he had buffelo wings... I would like to hit that area in 5 years when the kids get older.

My folks have done several sections several times. After seeing the pics, I'm not sure why I'm not up there in the summer.?

drpete3 02-26-2016 11:11 AM

I know 2 people that have done it. Sounds AMAZING!

wildthing357 02-29-2016 12:15 PM

Well worth the trip!!! would love to go back.

Come and do one of the Performance Boat club of Canada poker runs and spend a week before or after. Trent Severn is nice scenery for sure but not realy the place for large offshores, unless you like to idle lots. That being said if you came and did the Orilia run then took the trent severn system out to Georgian bay , that can be done in one day.you pass through three locks plus the marine railway at Big Chute, pretty cool. Once into Georgian Bay you have many options on where to go and what type of water you want to run in.

Padraig 02-29-2016 03:09 PM

I haven't been in the lower part of Georgian Bay but have spent many days boating and diving around Tobermory at the upper end. What a beautiful area!

Im going there this summer! Trenton down to g-bay then play around, or, drive down toward detroit...
Thats the official 2016 vacation plan!

hardcore 02-29-2016 06:53 PM

Padraig, we go to Tobermory at least once a season as it is as you say a great area. From there Killarney is a short hop also a nice area. Tobermory is about a 105 mile trip for us, 25 miles to Christian island, then 60 miles across the bay to Cabot head and then another 20 or so miles along the north shore. Would be nice to meet you up that way next summer.

Jeff 32 we will look for your sonic next summer, we used to spend time with a couple of other guys who used to bring there boats to Penetang from Quebec every year. It was a lot of fun. If you change your mind and trailer to Midland or Penetang I have lots of room at my place to store your trailer and the ramp at Penetang is very good and only 2 minutes from my place.

jeff32 02-29-2016 06:56 PM

thanks for the offer! I know I won't come back by water so yes I'll need somewhere to have my trailer parked! just don't know if GBAY or detroit or or or...

Killarny.... I can almost taste the best fish in the word. We used to go to Tobermory for a week every summer. We haven't done it for a number of years. Need to get back there!

With your comment about offshores, I have a question. Is there any noise (exhaust) enforcement?

hardcore 03-05-2016 03:21 PM

Rotax, I have heard something about running too close to shore with open exhaust, but I think the government agency were just talking about it as I have never heard of anyone getting stopped or ticketed for excessive noise in Southern Georgian Bay, where I do most of my boating. In 31 years boating here I have never been stopped in my boat for anything. I have been stopped in the seadoo though, but the police are mainly just checking for safety gear and they are usually in a good mood because most of the year they are on land in a cruiser, but for three months a year they get to go boating. Just use common sense and common courtesy , slow down in the narrow channels if there are cottages whether they are posted for speed or not.

hardcore...any suggestions on marinas in the bay, preferable closer to Victoria harbour/Waub area?

hardcore 05-03-2016 09:21 PM

Bayport or Wye Heritage in Midland are the biggest with the most amenities. Central marine also in Midland but smaller and more exposed to waves from weather or boat wakes. Midland town dock also has nice docks. There is a marina in Victoria Harbour but it also is smaller and I have never been in there but have seen it from the dock of the local Harbour restaurant. I would just stay at the town dock in Midland, close to restaurants etc. Wye Heritage also has a nice restaurant. Further around the bay is Penetang Bay, several marinas there but I prefer Hindsons , good docks and well protected but no restaurant. If you need any more information feel free to contact me.

Waub area has lots of rocks and you need to be careful , but all of Gergian Bay you have to know where you are at.

I've done the L. Ont to Georgian Bay run twice in a 27' Baja. Can do it in 5 days but I recommend taking your time especially in Bobcaygeon/Fenelon Falls area. Lake Simcoe/Couchiching are the biggest lakes on the system and a beatiful area, but Georgian Bay is the best fresh water boating in the world (IMHO). I live in the GTA and keep my 35 Fountain in L. Ont for convenience but trailer to Midland when on holidays and stay at Wye Heritage. So many great beaches on the leaside of the big Islands. Hope to retire there if I ever get to retire, Spend too much on my toys. Lol.

Pete35Fountain 05-04-2016 04:37 PM

I'm 300 yards up the road from Simcoe. After a couple of runs, Simcoe can get a bit boring. Refurbishing this Fountain has seen a couple of setbacks, boat should be ready for June 1th. Just trying to decide, first year with the boat if I splash it in the Narrows or the better boating over on Georgian. Thanks for the reply Mark.

hardcore 05-04-2016 06:07 PM

Hope to see your Fountain over here this summer. I had an 87 10 meter that I bought in 1989 off of Tres Martin, it had 509 Innovations in it on #2 speedmasters, triple front bolster, dry exhaust, man was it ever loud! It was one solid boat, ran 75 mph, which was fast back then.I also had many setbacks with that boat but we also had a lot of fun with it.

If any of you guys are in or around Sarnia on July 9 there is a nice poker run hosted bay Stokes on the Bay and Sarnia Bay Marina ..its the second year and funds raised are for a great cause ....Mike
